In the real navy I stood watch at the same time with a reactor operator and electrical operator who were Cajun.

I love repeating one of the stories of how NYC land developers tried to cheat them out of their land.

Dealt with a many of them who were plant engineers and operators, during visits to oil rigs in the Gulf of America, and chemical plants and power plants in Louisiana.

Was always impressed with their confidence, determination, insights and no nonsense aproach to operating the plants they were responsible for.

They might not sound like Harvard graduates when you speak with them, but the engineers I dealt with were first rate and really knew their stuff.

Their sense of humor was second to none!!

Cant say enough good stuff about the Coon a-ses I dealt with.

I expect those Cajun Navy guys are cut from the same mold.

Safe travels and all the best.

For two college summers I worked on a huge dredge that had crewed up at Port Arthur. The first summer I decked on an attending tug. My launchman's name was Blacky LaGrange. My buddy deckhand on the other tug was Tony Badeaux (who had the gift of humor to strongly that his account of being posted as lookout but did more looking in while his launchman had sex on bare metal bedsprings in an abandoned house on the levy left my sides sore for three days when I was in the best shape of my life). Clyde Kibideaux was a shift leader. Those guys took a very green college boy under their wings, kept him alive, and taught him a lot about dredges, tugs, hard work, and life -- and at 80 I'm still grateful.

Forgot the most important part about the Cajun's in my last post.
They all have one of the strongest sense of Family and Community that I have come across in all my travels.

Safe travels and all the best.
