Cheatgrass - Not a Dog's friend

FYSA - posted this on JAYCO Owners forum, so thought I would pass on this info on this forum as well. Noticed an inflammation between my Dog's front right paw toes and could not discern what the cause might have been. Was not there
a day or so ago, so thought maybe an insect sting or worse something we picked up in the river. Was able to get into the Vet in Wenatchee this AM, and found out it was a Cheatgrass seed that burrowed it's way into the paw joint. Vet said it was common around here, but I had no idea what Cheatgrass is, but do now.

Unfortunately, our 18 mo old Aussie is not conducive to having people handle her so Vet had to put her under anesthesia...$$, but at least the seed is out and she is healing.

Some of the things the Vet told me about what this seed has done to some dogs...Now I know...stay away from Cheatgrass!!

Nasty stuff. We’ve pulled it out of paws before and had one works it’s way up through the webbing on one dogs foot. Had to pop it out along with a fair amount of infection.

We call that weed Foxtail

Yes can be nasty.....seeds are barbed and keep moving 'forward'

We have a 12 acre field behind us that owners let go to seed.....Foxtails
Constantly have to do full body rub down on our pooch
He just thinks it's a puppy massage

The very best thing you can do for your pet is to walk trails on a short leash.
