Chippin' away at the gremlins

We love our 2001 HR Scepter we purchased last July, but the previous owner wasn't that great at fixing the broken stuff. And by that I mean he cobbled things together. Things are done half way.

This is our first coach which means that I'm also learning how the different systems function. It's a challenge to operate or fix something that's been modified from the original.

Lack of free time and cold weather has prevented me from doing much with the coach but I did get some time in this last weekend. I was able to get the furnace working, which seems to have been a bad power connection, and stumbled across the reason why the fantastic fan wouldn't come on.

I'm stockpiling various repair parts such as gas lift springs for the basement doors, and verifying/accumulating filters and supplies for an engine service.

We've got four big trips planned for 2018 which includes our honeymoon to the Texas gulf coast in April. Even with the challenges of time, lack of knowledge, and a long list of items to repair, I'm super excited to be checking things off and wanted to express my thanks to those of you that have taken the time to answer my constant and silly questions.

Some of the happiest times of my life were when my wife and I undertook the restoration of a Lifetime motorhome. Like you, the monkey brothers had attacked nearly every system in the coach while other parts had literally rotted away. I learned a lot and our family (Eventually 4) enjoyed many happy hours touring the southeast in that unit for over 10 years. The real up side occurred when problems reared their ugly head while on the road, we were very sure we could repair nearly any problem as we had already been there and done that. That was a good feeling.

I hope you take the same or even greater pleasure in the results of your efforts.

- Jerry
