As an old sailor, I say if it's in a cup (black) I'll take it. And the 'cup' requirement can be waived for an near appropriate vessel.

You might want to check the H2O temperature of your Mr. Coffee. If it isn't hot enough, it won't make good coffee.

My wife drinks from our Nespresso machine which is really tasty, but at a dollar a pod kind of expensive.

I like McCafe ground coffee. Better than Folgers, Maxwell House and the likes but cost effective enough so I can pay for wife's expensive Nespresso.

Ultimately, it's all just Personal Preference. There is no right or wrong.

This is a very good point. My wife often complains that "motorhome coffee" doesn't seem to taste the same as our home brewed coffee. Both home and motorhome have Mr. Coffee drip machines.
I'll take this one step further and suggest that if on shore power maybe you're not getting the full voltage that you would normally get at home. In that case, yes, your Mr. Coffee may not be getting hot enough to properly brew your morning cuppa joe. We ran into this at a CoE campground earlier this summer.
An argument for the manual boiling water method perhaps?

Try running the "perked" coffee thru the grounds again.

We make a 10 cup daily. We buy the Starbucks French Roast and Decaffeinated whole beans at Costco (Two or three bags when they're on sale!). We mix them about 65% 'Leaded' French Roast with about 35% Unleaded. We usually grind the night before, and have the pot ready to turn on in the AM (DW sleeps in, so less noise in the AM!).

We find this to be both a satisfactory tasting Cup of Joe, and also relatively economical in the scheme of things!

Hope you just had a bad run, and 'your norm' of what you like, will return to normal for you!

Travel safe,
Smitty
I was coffee shopping this morning, Smitty, after throwing out $10 worth of whole bean coffee. I had a chance to test sniff a bag of Starbucks French roast, as you mentioned, and, to be honest, it smelled like urine. I also had a chance to sniff a bag of Grevalia ground coffee, which I used to buy; there was no discernible coffee smell.

I'm through buying coffee for now. This morning, I applied the savings towards a couple of pounds of red cherries! At least they taste normal!

I used the cowboy method this morning, like I did in the past, using fresh ground beans, and the result was I only drank half a cup and threw out $10 worth of the whole bean stuff. So, I'm pretty much through with coffee for now. It's too expensive to test purchase the product, only to have to throw it out. I may try purchasing coffee again, in a different market, but only if I can test sniff it first.

I'm glad I don't have discerning taste buds.
Community or Seattle's Best ground hazelnut from the grocery store is fine by me.
If I want to go buy a cup of coffee, McDonald's makes good coffee.

What would you say if I told you that many modern Navy vessels have espresso makers.

Nearly all the Military Sealift ships have them.

From The Caine Mutiny (novel):
"Bring me a cup of coffee. I'm going to stick my finger in it and if it doesn't blister, you're on Report!"
Somehow, in WWII, I don't think espresso machines would have worked.
