This reminds me of a story my brother Leo tells.
Years ago, he and his friend Shelby were in the Chicago area and couldn't find their hotel. Leo was driving and told Shelby to call the hotel and get directions. Shelby called and reached a person of an ethnicity prevalent in the lodging industry.
The conversation went something like this:
Desk clerk answers: So and so hotel.
Shelby: Where bouts y'all at?
DC: Confused answer in mangled English.
Shelby: Where bouts y'all at?
DC: See above reply.
Shelby: (More emphatically this time) WHERE BOUTS Y'ALL AT!
DC: See above.
Shelby: (covers phone and turns to Leo and says) This stupid SOB can't understand English!
I guess when my brother finished laughing, they eventually found their destination.
