Everybody seems to flake out!

Thanks to all of you who have commented. It's so lovely to have warm-hearted people around. That's certainly a special feature of RVers.

So far I've had three people commit to doing this, and each of them backed out for one reason or another (family illness for the best option) so it looks like I'm going to have to do it myself. At least I'll only have to do it once! And after a 35 foot beast towing a car, a 12 foot is going to be easy, though the trip itself won't be easy.

I get your comments in my email inbox though I am really busy with a to-do list here in Iowa so it' s hard to find time to respond.

Hello Sharalyn,
Not sure if will reach you in time this is the first I seen of your post since I am not on this site as much as I use to be. I did follow your journey to Florida.

I ran this by the wife and if details could be worked out we're retired and have no obligations.

There are logistics problems since you are already in Iowa we live in North central Florida.

Not particularly fond of flying. I see three options, if you haven't already rented and packed a truck, we have a pickup that could pull a similar size trailer with your stuff in it actually I have a 6x12 enclosed trailer that I pull behind our MH if that is big enough I could bring it.

Second option, bring our rolling motel on wheels and tow a trailer back or same as truck could bring my trailer but as you know MH poor gas mileage two ways but it eliminates motels. I estimated fuel costs around $900 round trip. I am not sure how your weather will play into this.

Last option but not my choice we could drive our small car then tow behind the rental truck. Contact me though this forum if you feel something can be worked out.

Hey, Pop-sicle!
Wow are you ever incredible people for even considering doing such an arduous trip to help a stranger. I'm shaking my head (smiling) because t's hard to believe such kindness exists.

As it happens, I posted in a local buy-sell-trade Facebook group and another kind stranger has responded, a former trucker who will get the truck and me back by Thursday afternoon. For safety's sake I'll leave his name and personal information with a friend who knows to expect me, but when I asked him why he would be willing to do it he just said that he and his wife enjoy helping people.

Hopefully this time nothing will go wrong and I'll be able to post to you that I'm okay and back in the lap of mother Florida either late Thursday or early Friday.

Well actually you are not a stranger since so many of us took your fantastic journey with you, we all rode along with you.

Popular and informed belief is I am not very hospitable but yet a GRUMPY cuss so every now and then I attempt to do something good just to keep the zoo keepers guessing.

Happy things working out.

The end of the story...

Four different people told me they would drive me to Florida, and when the fourth person backed out, I realized that if I was going to get there I had to do it myself.

So I did. I drove it in two days and I am now back home, in a lot of pain but happy to say that my stuff is unloaded into the garage, the rental truck is returned, and I am spending about 18 hours a day in bed recovering, but I did it! I'm soooo happy that it's over and done! After that 35 foot MH, driving a 12-foot truck was a piece of cake. Also, instead of having to chit-chat with a driver, I got to listen to two good audiobooks.

Thanks again to everyone who commented. Knowing you were there and sympathetic gave me a sense of having some backing to do what had to be done. If any of you are going through Vero Beach, come see me!
