De-icing windshield
I saw a trick on FB for removing a thin layer of ice from a windshield.
A woman filled a 1-gallon zip-lock freezer bag with hot water and rubbed it over the windshield. It melted the ice almost instantly!
Our vehicles are under a carport so I can't test this, but thought some of you might want to check it out!

Be careful because heat on a cold windshield can find flaws and cause a crack.

Lots easier to just turn on the heated glass, isn't it?

If my truck windshield is went back iced up by the time I went back inside got a zip-lock filled it with hot water, got the step stool so I could fully reach the windshield ------
*windshield would already be defrosting cause I turned truck on high idle with exhaust brake on
*hot water would be cooled off....cause I couldn't hold/handle/carry too a plastic bag with too hot of water
*zip lock would probably fail and soak me with hot water
*then I have to dispose of the busted zip-lock
*take step stool back in
*by that time I forgot where I was going...shut truck off and go back inside
Cool idea.......(see waht I did there)
But I just give it a quick squirt from a can of de-icer

How about a strip of visqueen plastic across the windshield while parked. If the glass gets iced, just strip the plastic off and ya got a clean windshield. Worked well on those Atlanta ice storms.

Had a Oldsmobile Cutlass that had rear windshield heater
Guess some of them fancy RVs have them too
My truck just has heated mirrors but you have to wait/defrost the side windows first

Yup, rear window and mirror heaters are common, but I've never seen a heated windshield.

If you melt the water on the glass and start driving, it will refreeze and block your vision.
You need to get the glass warmed up.

When we left OKC last week during the start of cold/ice...... I used my credit card and then we moved a space heater to the front to help. The overhead defroster helped but not as much as I thought it would.
Hope to never do that again. We didn't want to stop and get trapped in OKC.
We made it to Arizona!

I have a can of de-icer in all my vehicles, JIC. Works on frozen locks too.

Courtesy of the weather channel. Two parts rubbing alcohol, one part water, drop or two of dish washing detergent. Spray it on. WC recommended putting it in a spray bottle; for an RV, a Super Soaker might work better. But still.
Freezing point -100, so it should work everywhere but North Dakota.
Of course you want winter washer fluid in the reservoir, for the same reasons.

The windshield heater is the defroster setting of the heater.

Many cars sold in Europe have (had?) heated windshields. Have to say that they are handy, especially when the windshields are fogged over as well as iced. The drawback is that they tend to make your forward vision a bit hazy in some light conditions.
I recall my dad using a bucket of warm water in an iced over windshield years ago. Never broke it but can only imagine the potential. I have used spray can deicer fluid in the past here on the tundra of Upstate NY and it's quite possible still have a can on a garage shelf tho these retirement days, can stay home if it's icy .
