OK... Since we're posting photos

2009 BMW K1300GT. 160 BHP

2007 Triumph America

I've been riding for 40 years as well with my first bike other than mini bikes being a 70cc Benelli. Rode dirt until my 17th birthday and haven't missed a riding season yet. I've been through most brands and even went the HD route in my youth with a 63 pan, 75 shovel and an 86 block. I'm on my 4th Beemer now and couldn't see myself going backwards in technology, these things are unbelievable.

I currently ride a 2008 Suzuki Boulevard C50T, formerly called a Volusia. My first bike was a 65cc Harley Davidson. I think they were called a Legaro.

One of the young kids in the back decided it would be neet to see what I would do if he chucked a watermelon out the back. No harm done. Then while riding on the interstate (not same day) was passed by a big rig which had to move over quite quickly. In this case size did matter and, well that was the end of my riding.
Well, I bet Offthewall and I could tell you a few stories but the fact that we are still here after 40+ years riding is testament that the onary don't die young...

My brother died Tuesday doing what he loved to do... riding his Harley. Some 19 year old girl was texting and ran over him. ( an $88 dollar ticket) I guess if I were to ask him if he would have given up riding years ago so he could be alive today he would of said no... when your time is up it's up. Weather you are screaming down some back road on your Harley or sitting in your living room watching NASCAR... When it's up, it's up.... So live life and go for it!

I agree with Billieg. I too am in the 40+ year club and haven't missed a season yet. I've had two major accidents and am still riding. I ride much differently now than I did when I was younger, but riding is a part of who I am and I can't imagine not doing it! I know that I will have to give it up one day, but as long I as I can hold it up, I will.

My sincere condolences go out to you for the loss of your brother.

I do believe that riding a bike for so many years has improved my driving skills in any vehicle. I ride (and drive) VERY defensively. I always assume the idiot behind the other wheel is going to do the dumb thing because, while on a bike, they often do. Scan ahead, plan multiple 'what ifs', always assume the worst case senario.

I also suggest to the other experienced riders out there to take the MSF advanced riders course. I took it about five years ago and was surprised how much I learned. I thought I knew everything

When I saw the dates I said the same thing. The first bike I rode was a Suzuki 80. The first motorcycle I owned (and still own) is a 1969 Royal Enfield 750 Interceptor. I recently gave it to my son-in-law so he can get it running. The bike I ride now is a 2007 Harley-Davidson Untra-Classic and it's going in the back of my F150 toad. Here's a picture of the Enfield:

I figure he's entitled to resurrect this thread since he's the OP.

That 1969 RE is sweet! The year I was born! My wife says that makes me an antique as well...

It does my heart good to see all of us old timers still ridin' .

Just shows you're never to old to " put something exciting between your legs".

I have been riding for 60yrs.

Started on minibikes and Honda Trails .

First road bike was Honda 350 Scrambler , moved up to a Honda CB450 .

Then there was the British Decade . 1966 BSA Thunderbolt , 1967 BSA Lightning , 1967 Triumph Bonneville and a 1970 Norton Commando .

In 1975 switched to American Iron and never looked back. Pan Heads , Shovelheads , Evo's and a Twin Cam .

Went back to a Shovelhead . Never got emotionally attached to the Evo's or Twin Cam.

Current ride is a 1980 FLT Shovelhead .

Have ridden all over this great country of ours , and the experiences and memories are priceless.

Will ride until I can't .

I've been telling my wife for years that when I get too old to hold the bike up I'm getting a sidecar. Then Harley stopped making sidecars. I did talk to the guy who bought their last one, Grover Sassaman. He owned Macon Harley-Davidson. He was an interesting guy look him up. Sadly we lost him a few years ago. Keep your knees in the breeze.

I'm the same way. My wife rides too and she's 10 years younger than me so I don't think I'll ever hang it up.
That Shovel in the pic above is a 93" with a kick/electric 6 speed.

My wife's 2016 Dyna S... 110 Twinkie has been tweaked a bit. It's a shame the motor company no longer makes Dynas.
