Does the "2.2 times rule" still apply ?

You might remember......"You have to tell someone an average of 2.2 times before they understand and get it right"

I found this to be true in the past. Now that I am retired and don't deal with the workplace anymore......what do you think?

BTW does your DW have to ask you to take out the garbage 2.2 times before you comply?

The old 2.2 is now the new 4.4 due to cell phone/texting....

The 2.2 times for the garbage does not apply to me. The garbage is now just placed where I will trip over it if I don't move it. I guess that is 0.0 times. But the suggestion is 2.2 times squared.

I always have used the lecturers use of.....

Tell em what you're going to tell em, Tell em, Tell em what you told em.

And then realize that only 20 percent will remember what was told em after 3 days hence.

Interesting that 2.2 is also the conversion from Kilograms to pounds. There must be some natural mathematics involved!

Definition of a lecture hall: it's where material from the notes of the lecturer goes to the notes of the students without passing through the minds of either!

At work I explained to them 5 separate times what parts were needed to fix some equipment they didn't understand (simple parts gaskets and O-rings). They bought what they thought was needed. So I replaced the good parts with new parts and the equipment still needing the bad parts replaced. I went to the 2nd line supervisor and told him to buy me a parrot. It would be easier to train the parrot than to explain 5 times what parts were needed. That way they could ask the parrot over and over and I could go on to do other work with out the aggravation of repeating whats needed.

Nobody tells me what to do, and it still takes 2.2 times to tell myself what to do.

I had a boss who stuttered when he got excited, and he used to say how many times do I have to tell you guys. I said usually 3 or 4. It was all in good fun and taken that way as well.
