I agree, it does work, and works well. I had a similar experience last year after moving intrastate, and getting a new land line number. I was deluged with offers from various businesses and services for the first month at my new residence. After signing up the new number with Donotcall, the number of calls after 10 days or so dropped off to almost nill. Now after a year, I never get any solicitations except political, and from previous business or credit accounts. I can handle those OK!

How long did it take to start working? I just re-registered. It's been over 10 years or more since I first did.

I'm just dreading when the political calls for this Fall's elections start. That's probably when I'll just permanantly yank my landline.

Calls I was receiving after my move and registration of new phone number slowed after just a few days. I suspect a lot of the unwanted calls originated when I applied for phone, utilities, etc.

Happy Campers:Thanks for trying to check out the fines in MS from your end. I hope they are collecting on all issued fines. In our State that must not be as good as I will average about 3 per week with those card services scams. Always the same group, using different telephone numbers as their base, and FTC notifications don't seem to stop much. My remedies don't work, the DNC listing doesn't help a lot of others who get the same call, and I do list things in the "who called us forum. The reports from that site shows high activity even with DNC and those who have used FTC to complain.

If a live body calls, I ask to be removed from their calling list. Most agree to, but I can't say for sure if they do. I need to start a log.
Also, if you hit * or # repeatedly some of the canned calls will automatically disconnect. I've heard that it flags your number as not valid. I just got a call from Tacoma, WA for discount dental info. * caused the call to drop.
Lately, I've been answering as I'm expecting calls from doctors and other businesses. Probably should let it go to the machine, but some people are reluctant to leave a message.

If you check with the FTC, they are a "clearing house" so to speak. They collect from the consumer the complaints and then pass them all on to the state concerned. This gives the State Attorney General the ammunition they need for prosecution. The FTC is not the enforcement agency.
The automatic solicitor calls move from state to state, and when that runs out they start calling from foreign countries. It is more profitable for them to pay the fine in a state and move on, continuing to get money from those poor souls who don't have a clue, and there are many out there.
Education and awareness are the keys. The more aware and educated the populations, the less profitable those credit card solicitors will be. Most of their profit comes from fraud, hence the prosecution.
