Planning my last big trip of my life. We are going to London, Ireland, Paris France, Venice, Florence, and Rome. Travel starts early June (5th) and ends late July (30th).

My question is has anyone traveled a similar route? I'm wanting to go by train from city to city. I've already gone via the Chunnel to Paris and then TGV to south of France, but have never gone anywhere else by rail in Europe.

The other big problem is that I have to use a mobility scooter. has anyone seen them in use in Europe?
I use this scooter..

any experience renting a car?

Any helpfull information would be fantastic.

Hi John,

I am not sure where to start. I have bussed, trained, and drove in most of those places (never been to Ireland or Venice) so I am sure that you can go to whereever it is you wish to go.

Driving in the UK - short of everything being on the wrong side of the road it was easy and I adjusted quickly - only suggestion here is that you pay the extra for the automatic transmission.

France - only trouble there was lack of French knowledge - road signs were a challenge.

I tried to avoid driving in major cities although I did hit the outskirts of Paris..driving past Versailles Palace was a 'stitch'.

The rail system is great and should accommodate your destination needs.

As to specific things to do in each of those places - well I have my ideas but they may not be 'your cuppa tea' if you are interested in back and forth communications I will be happy to give you my email address.

Now as to the scooter. I am not in need of using one (yet) so I can't relate to the challenges that come with them. My impressions of Europe, in general, is that they have a LONG WAY to go as far as making public transportation accommodations. I have seen improvements over the years but still a long way to go (last time there was 3 years ago)

I love the fact that you aren't squeezing all of this into a 'two week march' - too many people make that mistake.
