"There is no such thing as a free lunch." Commercials pay for entertainment. Almost all TV is entertainment including News. Walter Cronkite is long gone.

I found the following sources. They are not add free, but there is more content than adds. I still have to ignore all the useless opinions.
Broadcast PBS 21-1, 21-2
http://www.npr.org/programs/morning-edition/ (in depth news and opinion)
https://www.npr.org/programs/all-things-considered/ (in depth news and opinion)
http://www.sciencefriday.com/
https://www.bbc.com/news/world (also has individual national news pages)
Both New York times and The Washington Post have good coverage, but require you to surrender your credit card to them. Again, ignore the opinion pages.

We have given up on other than the local TV news, and have cancelled the paper. News persons and journalists appear to have limited intellectual prowess and are morally bankrupt.

For weather I use Weather .com for my town

For National News I watch BBC which seems to just report

For Local News we don't have any as it is for/all about Phoenix and I don't care about Phoenix

But even the local news is suspect. Sinclair Broadcast Group has bought up 193 local stations and is enforcing editorial overview, including must-run segments.

Is your local station actually local?

In Cronkite's time, there was no competition to keep them honest.

And so they weren't.

I like to believe that in Chronkite’s time they didn’t need competition to keep them honest. And frankly, it’s partly all the competition to be first with the “news“ that leads to all the fake news today coming off unsubstantiated twitter and FB posts.

The Yellow Press has been around since the late 1800's.

There is nothing new under the sun.

Current state of "news" media may well be too much competition. With the number of TV stations that offer 24/7 "news", there is a mad scramble to be first. They also tend to over dramatize stories, add their own twist/spin, or blatantly create their own "news". The entire situation comes together to form an environment that is nauseating at times!

Fake news and Enemy of the people. Two terms that have done more to divide this country than anything anyone on the evening news could say or do.

It's still our country and I believe our responsibility to know what's happening. It's not rocket science. It's just critical listening, reading and until we are comfortable with a source, a bit of fact checking.

Today's News:

The same things happened today that happened yesterday, just to different people.

Now for the Weather:

It's gonna change.

Over to Sports:

Half of the teams one, the other half lost.

Film at 11.

Walter Cronkite was the first of the main stream media....he lied like a rug, and loved everything left of center. I came home from my first VN tour in June 1968, and watched him on the news. He told all about a combat action that was totally false, don't know if he made it up or passed on a made up story from his left leaning buddies. I know it was false....because I was there on the ground.
