Filled up with diesel for .829 per gallon!

Yup, you heard me right! Went to Kroger to fill up. Their diesel was $1.92 per gallon. My Kroger fuel points gave me $1.00 per gallon discount, plus the 5% PenFed cash rebate, bringing the net cost down to .829! The Kroger fuel points is supposed to only be for up to 35 gallons in one purchase. I reached the 35 gallons and the pump shut off. I hung up the nozzle, got my receipt, then scanned my cards again to finish filling the tank, expecting to only get the regular .03 per gallon Kroger discount. Would you believe it gave me $1.00 per gallon discount on the second purchase of 28 gallons!

Today is my lucky day for sure!

Uh, oh! Just found out why I got the second pumping at $1.00 per gallon discount! Annette told me that we had a $1.00 discount from last month that we had not used, also another $1.00 discount for this month! So I ended up using both of them! Had I realized that I would have waited to use the last one until I could pump the maximum 35 gallons allowed on the the discount instead of the 28 gallons I used to top off this fillup! Bottom line is I threw away $7.00!

That's great Joe, to bad it wouldn't last for a longer period of time though. They'll get even with us in the end. We can only hope the prices will stay down for a while longer.

Bruce, not sure what you mean by "longer period of time" ? Kroger gives the fuel points all the time. They do have specials from time to time that sweetens the pot! For about a month or so before Christmas they were giving 4X fuel points on most gift cards! We stocked up on Amazon gift cards!

What I meant Joe was for the fuel prices to continue to stay low. That's a good deal from Kroger. Nothing to complain about there. The best for the New Year Joe.

Also Kroegers will do promotions on the gift cards they sell, sometimes 4 times
the points. We are building a house and need many things from Home Depot that we would purchase anyway. So we just buy HD gift cards at Kroeger in $500 increments and the gas points really add up. At the end of some months all our vehicles are full, so we give the points to friends before they expire. It's a great deal!

And I thought this was my secret. We have been using the $1 discount for over 2 years now and I cant remember paying "full" price. I too purchase the gift cards when the points quadruple as I am in construction. We also make sure we purchase the gas with a credit card that offers at least 2% rebate on gas. Last year we saved almost $2000 on gas. Dave Ramsey would be proud of you!

Here is another area Florida is 20 years behind times. We do not have one grocery store with fuel savings anywhere. Winn-Dixie has a discount through a Shell Station, but their gas is 10 cents a gallon higher and they don't have diesel.

Why don't you use the PenFed Cash Rewards Visa card for 5% rebate?
