FMCAssist Medical Emergency?

Just wondering has anyone ever had to use or heard of anyone that had to use this Program, if so how did it work, how easy was it and if there were any hurdles using it? I’ll just leave this open probably without any reply’s unless I have anymore questions. Thank you all in advance.

Three people in our RV Chapter have used the program with great results. I have no personal experience.

How many are in your Chapter? Three is a large amount to have medical emergencies!

In all our full-timing travels over the years I only heard of one 'trying' to use it, unsuccessfully. They would only transport to the nearest hospital. He had fallen off a ladder washing the RV & the wife didn't know how to drive to take him home. Son had to fly in to take the RV home.

Hint: Wives should learn to drive.

We have run 90 to 105 members in the last 10 years. We are at 70 plus right now. All ours were in a hospital and had to be transported home, the doctors said they should be returned home ASAP and travel by car or RV wasn't advised. They offered have the MH driven home or fly someone in to drive it.

FMCA Medical assist

Some one in our camping club had to use it twice. She was flown from Florida to Pittsburgh for specialized orthopedic care. Remember many retires are in the age bracket of 80 to 90.

How long ago were some these above mentioned services rendered?

Here is the problem with this. You "only heard of one". No first hand experience. There are a number of items that have to be met before the FMCAssist program kicks in. I advise reading the entire policy to find out exactly what is and what is not covered.
There is no way to get this kind of service for less than the $50/yr dues of FMCA

We were parked next to the party when he fell. The wife relayed the outcome to us.

There is more to the story than was related. I was on the Risk Management committee and we saw every claim that was submitted. We did not get names of the members, just the case numbers, the facts and the specifics of the claim.
In one case a claim was made, the member was flown home for treatment and said he would return and drive his coach home after he was well. So, after being treated and everything was fine, he decided it was cheaper for him to have his coach delivered so he called the Assist provider and said bring it. Needless to say, he was denied so now he is upset.

So, my comment is that there is always more to the story than told

I’m with them, not him on that call.

Even the more expensive transport services, such as MASA, make exaggerated claims as to what they can provide but when you read the fine print you discover that the defined coverage is usually nothing more than transport to the nearest medical facility that can provide an appropriate level of care.

I'm not denying that there are people who cite examples of people who have been transported home, but what I am saying is that none of these plans actually promise that to you. They simply can't do that for the prices being charged.

In addition to Joel's comment, it often does not make medical sense to transport people home for all treatment options.

Our friends had to use it a couple of years ago. He ended up passing away and the Assist program got them both home along with making the arrangements for drivers to get the motor home and car home. She was extremely happy how they took care of everything for her. It took a lot of stress off of her at a very difficult time.

Now that’s a good ending!
