For the Not So Young (Benefits)

My Dear Wife sent me an email - well to a lot of her "Senior" friends. Rather than the email, here is the link I found. And here are her words:

"For my friends who are over 55 or approaching double nickels, save this and perhaps save a nickel or two. Senior discounts are good. Don't be vain, or as my recent admonition to someone should be - don't let your vanity affect your sanity."

Senior Discounts

I try to always ask everyone for a discount. Even my doctor, but he never agrees. He does mention something about my sanity.

Best policy is to always ask in advance. Lists like this one are always inaccurate because companies are always changing policies. Often, the discounts are conditional on things like certain days, time of day, certain items only, etc. I always ask.

Well the greatest thing about getting older is senality. yes senality.

When the man calls to ask why you have not paid the bill.. You say "What bill, I don't remember any bill"

Ok, perhaps not the best joke.

But when a computer calls .... There is no bill (Title 47 ss 227 USC) or at least it's a lot smaller.

I learned a long time ago not to ask a doctor for a discount. I was embarrassed to ask, but at the time I had three kids and thought I'd give it a try. The doc said: "NO WAY...you're lucky I don't charge you a BUNCH extra $$$ for preforming 'micro-surgery'!" Dejected and a little ashamed, I left and went home to rest up for the weekend from the vasectomy.

Now that I'm older, I find that in most businesses they don't bother with asking my age, they just give me the senior discount automatically. A sad commentary of the shape I'm in? Bob

Thanks Wayne, there were some on this list I wasn't aware of. I am going to print and keep in my purse for easy reference. It was great that it listed what days discounts apply etc.

I got remarried (had a vasectomy some years before) I went to the Dr's to check and see if it "took" (they sometimes don't). They sadly reported that "sorry, no little swimmers present". They thought we wanted children and we didn't. In fact they forgave the cost of the checkup since it was negative! Only thing I've ever gotten for free from Dr.!

Thanks Brenda (et.al)

Glad someone appreciates the list and is staying on topic. I should not have added my little pun, that never happened, about the doctor.

Oh well!

And as I stated, and others have posted right behind me, "I try to always ask everyone for a discount." Self explanatory.

My dentist always makes deals with me.... If I don't come in anymore he won't send me bills anymore.

Actually he does work with me, he knows I'm on SS and he gives me discounts and even freebies. He gave me $150 discount on my dentures because I referred two people to him and I didn't ask for it, he just gave it to me.

Same here...a feeble attempt at 'golden' humor. Sorry if my 'short' story strayed too far off topic. My apologies.

If a senior discount is not posted in a conspicuous place, I don't ask. Bob

One winter in FL, we ate in a nice restaurant for a night out. I asked the waitress, when she presented the bill, if they offered a senior discount. She replied; "look around you sir, everyone is a senior". I assumed her answer was no, paid and left.

Thanks Wayne. We knew about a lot of them, but it never hurts to ask.

[Moderator Edit]We have a deal with our dentist that if we pay cash, we get ten percent off the top of the bill. Think about that. TEN PERCENT for cash.[Moderator Edit] we were getting some extensive dental work done on both of us and it saved us about four grand. Of course, we bought the dentist a new BMW but who is counting ......
