Getting my new Ear
Greetings one and all.
Well I am not sure where to post this so if this doesn't belong here I am sure someone will let me know. I am not sure if is I should be posting this at all. But the way I look at it - You all are becoming our inner circle of friends and family. Even though I haven't meet anyone day by day we are getting closer to becoming full-timers. So anyway
Tomorrow November 24th, I am going in for surgery to get my second Cochlear Implant (CI). For you who don't know what that is... it is like a hearing aide only better, but it is only for those people whom hearing aids don't work for them any more. Like I said this will be my second CI, My first one was done in June of 2009 and I felt it really changed my life. It opened up the world of hearing to me once again. Before my first CI my hearing was 12% in my right ear and 10% in my left ear. I felt a terrible loneliness as I felt always excluded from the conversations that was going on around me that I just couldn't understand what was being said. After getting my 1st CI the world of sound was once again opened up for me. At first it was a bit overwhelming. It took a good year for me to get the full benefit from it. I am getting the second CI because in the last couple of months I have notice that I only hear out of one of my ears. So getting the second one will bring a balance to everything I hear.
What does this have to do with RVing? Nothing except that it is effecting me the Driver, now I will be able to hear all those sounds the rest of you talk about. 
My surgery is on November 24th and on December 27th we are taking off on our first big trip. We will be leaving St Louis area and will be heading south to Zephyrhills, Florida where my wife is taking a RN contract job for about 4 or 5 months. This will be a big test to see how well we do living together in an RV and getting used to the RV life style.
So as I head towards surgery tomorrow – please say a pray for me. I will give you an update how things go for me afterwards.

Good Luck with the surgery. I just got two hearing aid thru the VA. I guess I blew out my hearing listening to the engine in the helo while in Viet Nam. Audiologist said I have not heard a wide spectrum for years. I just now found out that little birds make sounds. It is wonderful to hear thing that others take for granted. It is a wonderful world when you hear everything. The audiologist did tell me that 'most' women speak in the range I could not hear. Could explain my two divorces!!!

Best to you Sonny. There's only one drawback...no more excuses for not hearing the Mrs! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Looking for travel nursing contracts myself, what a great way to travel. Happy Thanksgiving to all, and remember our troops who can't be home tomorrow.

As to your concern as to where to ''post stuff'', do like me and put it here and the Admins will shuffle it around if necessary. You will find that this is the greatest bunch of folks and we welcome you to the group. One word of advise...... Be careful about taking ''advise'' from Seajay the sailor man. He charges ten cents for ''advise'' and most of the time it aint worth a nickle .....
That'll be ten cents for the advise about Seajay and you can pay me the next time you see me.
Thank a Vet for your freedom. Some bought it with their life......
