Bob Denver, known to millions of boomers as "Gilligan" of "Gilligan's Island" died yesterday (9-6-05). The show ran fron 1964 to 1967, but counting reruns it has NEVER gone off the air. I saw the flags at half mast and thought "Wow, Gilligan would be honored, then realized it was for the Chief Justice. So long little buddy!

I doubt there are many people who don't know of Gilligan. Good show indeed.
Of course the standard joke we've all heard 500 times is, maybe the tiny ship wouldn't have sunk if each one of them hadn't packed enough change of clothing to last 3 years.

When I was a teen, the question among the boys was "Mary Ann or Ginger?" Most replied, "Mary Ann of course, Ginger was just a Bimbo"

When we go camping I seem to either run out of clothes or have just enough, yet we always bring back enough food from a two day trip
to have lasted us another two weeks. Gilligan wore the same shirt every day. I think it was red.

Our television broadcasts have been beaming out into space for over fifty years at the speed of light. When we finallly (publicly) get visited by ET, will they want to talk to Gilligan, Lucy, the Lone Ranger... and take a tour of the Starship Enterprise? If so they may be so dissapointed that they get mad and go home.
