Harsh, or too easy?

Alright. Here's a question. Does a 4 year prison sentence seem harsh, or lenient for this criminal?

Maybe someone will start a petition to commute his sentence as he is just a young man and made poor decisions.

Poor misunderstood youth.

15-20 years. He flipped a car and injured the driver. He's spent most of the time since 18 in jail. We're supposed to feel sorry because of his child hood, rehabilitation and multiple chances to change aren't working, he has 5 charges pending. He's not going to learn to play nice in a civilized world, time he's locked up to protect the innocent.

Knowing that a Federal sentence has been handed down he must serve the entire 4 years. Had he not crossed state lines he likely would have been locally charged and been paroled in 18 months.
Federal prisons are not country clubs.

If you prey on society and cause either physical or financial harm then society should have a method of preventing that harm.
Incarceration seems to be the best method.
Not for punishment but preventing harm.
Suggest that if the offender repeats, then longer and longer jail time for each new offence. Could be up to life in prison eventually.
If you can't live by the rules then society needs to do what it must to protect itself.

The title of the article sounds ridiculously stupid.

Quote:
Young car thief accused of multiple thefts and a dangerous police chase, is hit with an unusually harsh, 4-year prison sentence
Unusually harsh? This is a criminal that'll keep stealing and has no problem becoming a potential killer trying to escape the law. With the slap on the wrist punishment he received, he'll most likely be back to his old antics as soon as he gets out.

Since when did 22 years old become a "juvenile"?

When I was in that age group we called 22 year olds "lieutenant".

If they add 5 years for each previous conviction they may be getting close to harsh enough.

Agree!
Need to protect society from repeat offenders.
