Help!! I'm requesting help with extracting photos from Photobucket

Gents,
As did many of you, I used Photobucket for hosting third party photos for quite a few years. But, they've changed their policies and, we are no longer able to use them for hosting photos unless you PAY THEM. Well, that's fine but, I'm not gonna pay them. So, I've been desperately trying to remove my photos from photobucket and place them back into a file on my computer. If, IF I ever can do that, I will find another site to host third party photos for linking on to forums.

But, Photobucket says in their site: "Yes, your photos are all safe". But, they won't let me extract them from their site to my computer. I have tried every which way to click on every tab, follow any and all instructions and more, but, the ads keep poping up and blocking what I'm trying to do. Once I finally get the ads gone, off the screen, It (their site) still won't let me do it.

The simply "cut or, copy and paste" thing simply won't work. I need help here. I'd really like to remove all the photos from there and put them back onto my computer for my discretion as to where they're further displayed. Have any of you worked with PHotobucket since they've changed their policies? Are or, were you able to extract your photos from their site?

If so, how EXACTLY, DID YOU DO IT? What clicks did you use? Where did you put them? I'm usually fairly computer literate and can figure most things out but, I'm at a loss here and so is the wife. Help!

Scott

I use Firefox and set it to download to the downloads folder. I have not been able to download an album or the library, but I can download one photo at a time. Since I do have backup at home, it doesn't matter so much. Try the one at a time and waste a day, then dump PhotoBucket and tell everyone you know to do the same.

Personally, I would NEVER upload photos to any hosting site without keeping a backup of them on my home computer and or a separate hard drive. With the low cost of hard drive storage these days (hundreds and hundreds of gigs of storage for under $100) vs. the value of your pictures/photos, it makes perfect sense to have everything backed up. Almost every photo that I have has some memories of a time and place that simply cannot be duplicated.

Hey lynnmor,
I appreciate your answer here. Well, it's another thing that's kind-a odd. On my laptop, Photobucket won't let me extract not even one photo, singly. The buttons and clicks, simply won't work. But, on my house desktop, if things are working and, Photobucket want's to cooperate, I may get one or two to transfer over to a file but, then Photobucket starts throwing tantrums and, it just stops working. Photobucket has never been a well-working site. It's at least to me, been a pain to navigate. But, now, especially since they're a pay site, they've gone completely downhill.
And yes, as you state, I may have to "waste a day" goofing around with those idiots. Thanks again for your help.

Hey xrated, (nice name)
Well, I do have about 98% of the photos that I have on Photobucket but, they're scattered all over the place in different files, flash drives, portable hard drives and more. I just thought that, if it were possible, I'd just simply pull all of them off Photobucket and put them on whatever I wanted, a flash drive , portable hard drive etc. But, noooooooooooo, Photobucket has you (me) by the go-nads and can do whatever it pleases except, for letting go of my photos. Yes, I can hunt for all of them on my flash drives and hard drives and, may end up doing just that. And, yep, it's the memories and, in some cases, the technical detail that's of serious importance in many of those photos. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks again.

I wonder if you are talking about .ZIP files and you need to extract them. From what I understand, PhotoBucket puts your files together in a zipped file, but I can't get the website to do anything but one at a time. Perhaps you have a different unzipping program on each computer, or none at all on the laptop. You might try installing this one:
7-Zip

You and I will both be glad when this miserable company is in the rear view mirror.

Scott-

You might send a PM to "RedRocket." His post about PhotoBucket downloading is here.

Hey xrated, (nice name)
LOL.....it's nothing to do with what some folks think! Years ago (2001) when I first started doing forums, I joined a motorcycle forum that was specific to the Honda CBR 1100XX BlackBird motorcycle, as I owned one. I tried to join the forum using the screen name XXRated, but it was already taken, so I settled for simply "xrated". At the time the motorcycle was first put into production (1997), it was the world's fastest production motorcycle. So I just started using "xrated" for a screen name in almost every forum that I joined, and it just stuck. When I signed up here, several months ago, one of the Admins, was going to make me change my screen name because of the perceived notion about "xrated". When I replied to the PM, and explained my screen name, they let me keep it.

So someone here in the forums suggested using Imgur to host photos, and I opened an account there and this is the first photo I uploaded onto irv2 from Imgur. I too have a bunch of photos here in irv2 linked thru Photobucket, so far they are still connected, but I have not received a notice from PB demanding any payment (yet).

But ever since I moved my photo collection on my iMac from the iPhoto app to the new Photos app, my computer has not cooperated with Photos to allow uploads to PB to link to irv2. This Imgur site looks like a good way to go.
