Home base near Phoenix
I'm seeking advice from IRV2 folks familiar with the Phoenix metro area. My wife and I a looking to retire by June 2020 and we are considering a home base in a suburb of Phoenix. Our daughter currently lives in the city and wants to go in on a house purchase where all three of us can live. It would be great for us because we plan on traveling in our RV in the summer months and she would be at the house while we're gone etc.
My top end budget would be 300K but if we can spend between 250-275 that would be easier on us. We have no desire for a condo or over 55 resort/park at this time. We would like a single family home with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and RV parking at our home (it seems somewhat common there from some listings I've seen)in a safe suburb near the city because my daughter works near the Biltmore area of the city. She doesn't want too long of a commute.
What can you recommend and why? Thanks in advance for your replies.

We are in Mesa. Mesa home values are a bit less than Scottsdale and Tempe. Check out areas towards north Mesa where you access is to the 202 vs the 60 for commuting. Mesa is a big city with lots of homes in that range.

The Biltmore area and the areas near are expensive. But there are areas a few miles away, to the NW that may be doable.
I'd check between Camelback and Northern and 12 Ave and Highway 51 also know as Piestewa Frwy. There is a little area w/o restrictions, in the 1600 block of East Orangewood, which is a dead end Cul de Sac. Steets are E of Central and Ave's W
I lived in Central Phoenix for nearly 40 years.

Be sure you can find covered storage for your RV once you move there. The summer sun will be very hard on the RV's exterior and interior.

There are in Casa Grande but that doesn't meet the OPs criteria.

There are lots of homes there with RV garages, but not likely in the sub $300K range anymore. 10 years ago that was easy.

We lived in Black Canyon City. North of Anthem. We lived just north of town on a hill facing Phoenix. We heard things about BCC like people calling in Crack canyon city. But honestly it's a nice little town and no HOA's and usually plenty of land to park an RV next to the house. Call Stacie Priest at Squaw Peak realty. She does BCC, Anthem and Phoenix. Unless there was an accident on I17 it took us a shorter time to get to work from there (we worked in N. Phx) then it did from 7th St and Bell.

I would look for covered or indoor RV storage. Here's an example...
https://powerranchstorage.com/
Opens up more possibilities at a lower investment. It is common to see folks with their RV parked outside next to the house, usually behind an "Rv gate". Wouldn't want my RV exposed to the elements 24/7 365. Kb Homes has some nice new developments all over the Phoenix area. We looked at townhomes which offer reduced outside maintenance and maybe a lower price depending on what you are looking for. The new construction will have 8 or 9' ceilings, most of the older stock have 7' ceilings which is not something I could live with. Some older parts of Mesa have septic systems, something I wouldn't touch.

There is a new housing development in Surprise AZ just east of the 303 loop on Cactus . Some of the homes have a large RV garage attached. As an alternative, National Indoor RV just opened in Surprise just farther East on Cactus with very nice indoor storage.

I live in the northwest part of the Phx metro area. We are in city limits and an HOA area. There are certainly RV unfriendly rules in these situations. We built our house and RV barn and moved in in 2016. Being not real happy with all the rules, we have purchased a lot only about 4 blocks away and across the street that happens to be in a county island (not in the city limits and no HOA). We eventually plan to build a better version of our present home and RV barn there. I think property in a county island is a good way to go if you want to stay in the metro area, but want to avoid onerous city and HOA rules.
