HONDA CRV Owners

I know there are lots of variables but let's just go w/ the basic:

If you own a Honda CRV, what is your gas mileage? We're considering this as a 2nd car and I'd rather rely on owners' real numbers than the hype that they put on the sticker. Thanks! OH! and if you have any likes or dislikes......that would be great.

Our 2005 CR-V got in the low to mid 20's for mileage. We towed it 4 wheels down behind our Allegro Bus ad really liked it. It could have been insulated a bit better as on certain highways there was excessive road noise but that's my only "complaint".

I'm sure you'll get some replies from others who actually own the CRV and can give you some real world mpg numbers. We don't not own one, but want to get rid of our pick-up truck and get one later this year. I've researched them quite a bit and they're great vehicles, as is the case with most if not all Honda's. They're also one of very few Japanese awd vehicles that are 4 wheels down towable behind a motorhome. You just have to start it and run the transmission selector through all of the gears every 600 miles of so of being towed. A co-worker has one and we've gone from Reno to the bay area in his a couple of times and the ride quality and quietness of ride are pretty impressive. On par with small luxury vehicles from several years back. It also does pretty well pulling the hills going over Donner Summit. We've been a Honda, Toyota Lexus family since about 97 and they've all been the most reliable and trouble free cars of any we owned previously. When a lot of other cars are starting to have little ankle bite troubles as they go past 100k miles, our H, L, T, cars and trucks get keep on going. Sorry I can't give you mpg numbers, it'll be better than our Tundra that's for sure.

04 CR-V mId twenties mileage. Road noise (compared to other vehicles which are heavier). This has been noted by Consumer Reports. Wife would like a little better view out the back while backing up.

Other wise it is a gem which is consistently rated a "best buy".


The CR-V is generally rated as having the highest resale value, highest saftey and crash test ratings.

Silky smooth engine and transmission, roomy, efficient layout, they come in enough styles and models and cost so you can get a basic version or a more deck out model. I think the newer ones offer a back up camera.

Tows great. We will get another when we wear this one out many years from now.

Thanks for your input Wolfpack Fan. We're looking to get rid of our tow truck after we sell our TT and will start looking into the Class C category. We won't have the need to tow the Honda for probably years to come (we'll continue to do short range trips while we still have kids under roof), but are looking at Honda because it would be nice to not have to switch vehicles when the time comes and we're ready to tow! We also own a Toyota van for the past 12 yrs and just hit 100k miles. The way I see it, we just broke it in and we'll have it for many years to come. So the long-term life of a Honda is a "must" category for us. I appreciate you taking the time and share your opinion!

Ours runs in the mid twenties as well, at freeway speeds (70-75mph) or around town.

One comment regarding the road noise. The insulation package isn't very good regarding muffling the tire noise. You really have to pay attention when buying new tires! Wind and engine noise levels about as good as most anything else out there!

X2, road noise is from tires, no wind noise. Excellent distinction. CR-V body and components fit like a glove etc[

We purchased a 2012 this past January, we love it only have around 2800 miles on it. On freeway driving it gets a honest 30 mpgs and around town it averages around 25 mpg. It really isn't that noisey on the road, been told they have improved. They all come with back up cameras. I don't plan on towing it yet, we have a 2010 hhr that we tow , but if something happens to it we will be towing the CRV.

Have a 2012 CRV with AWD that we pull behind our Bounder. Recently took a trip to Cape May and the Honda got mid 20's mpg. Not as comfortable as our Lexus but still a good car for a dinghy.

We have an 07 CRV purchased new in November of 07. It is 2WD with NAV. Mileage is 23 -24 mix highway/city streets, 28 - 30 highway (28 @70mph/30 @ 60). We tow behind a motorhome with no issues. No quality problems except original battery was defective and replaced under warranty.

Have towed a 2001 over 50,000 miles--with now 162,000 total on the CRV. Average about 27 mpg and don't plan on getting a new one for some time. Good car and I agree on the road noise. My mechanic wants mine now if I would let him have it.

Seven years ago, we bought our daughter’s 2000 CR-V when she moved out of the country. We needed a little run around car and she had to sell, 170,000 + miles later it still gets around 28 miles to the gal, has needed no major work and my DH would sell his truck before he would let the little Honda go.

This is great yall - exactly what I was looking for, real numbers. Considering it isn't a 'luxury' car, I could live w/ the road noise. My Toyota van is the same way so it wouldn't be anything we aren't accustomed to. THANKS YALL!
