Wonder who will be the first RVer across the bridge? Not my wife! She just told me I had better learn the bypass route or go by myself.

oh course you will have to check the connecting roads to make them legal roadways and put all safety rails and barriers as well as road paint so Vegasdan is absolutly spot on as the bridge construction could be copmplete by November but not road legal till '?'

I love driving over the dam, have done it many times and will do it again in October. I'm still not sure how I'll handle the new bridge. It's an amazing feat of construction!

DW and I are trying to wrangle tickets to the grand opening.

It's my fondest hope to be the first to "whiz" (downwind of course) from the bridge.

Some traffic (tour buses visiting the dam, auto's also visiting) will be allowed. The traffic situation is subject to change as they see everything in operation. Stay tuned.

Sadly, I'll probably not get the chance to drive over the dam as distance and expense have kept me from journeying that far south east.

My understanding is it will be closed to through traffic, you may drive as far as the public parking garage/areas, but cannot cross in a vehicle.

As of yesterday the bridge was not finished, and it doesn't really look like they will make the Nov 2010 deadline from what I saw.

I wonder how many drivers will "freeze ip and lock down" on that span...
Not deriding anyone for having issues with heights... but that is one fearsome looking chasm.

I have seen cars come to a complete halt on the Matthews Bridge in Jax when they realize they are on the "see through" steel grating which replaced the solid road bed a number of years ago. Not good when that happens.

Y'all good on ahead and be first... I can wait.
