This has nothing to do with my RV, so if you are offended just don't read it!

The other night my lovely wife of 49 years was walking through our kitchen when she noticed one of the four burners, the largest one, on the electric cooktop was glowing red. She checked the control knobs and then yelled for me to come to the kitchen. We hadn't used the cooktop for several days, and yet the burner was glowing red. After fiddling with the control knobs and failing to get the offending burner to turn off, I went down in the basement to turn off the circuit breaker.

I did a little research and found several post where stove and cooktop burners had mysteriously turned on all by themselves due to a faulty control relay. That cooktop has 4 individually circuit boards and a main board. How did something like a cooktop get so complicated?! Can you just imagine if we had left something flammable on the cooktop?

So just a word to the wise, never leave flammable things unattended on a stove or cooktop! You never know these days.

We always keep our cooktop cleared just for that same reason.

You never know when something weird is going to happen.

Multiple IC circuit boards living in a hot environment...what could possibly go wrong? Years ago we had a new GE gas/electric range that smoked two control boards. Both were covered under warranty. The tech advised us not to use the "clean" function in the electric oven. It generates too much heat for the design of the main control board. Never used the clean function again and it was still going strong when we sold the house.
Gotta love hi tech gadgetry.

Yep, ruined a few things by turning on the glass cooktop without clearing it off.

Now it never gets left with anything sitting on it.

Have never seen it start by itself, but thanks for the heads up.

BTW has anyone found a decent polishing compound to take out very small scratches/scuff marks? That glass is super hard! Cerium Oxide doesn't seem to work.

Winnebago uses the True Induction brand of cooktop (Since 2013). It is designed and engineered the the Untied States and manufactured overseas.

Ours has never started itself, but I did accidentally turn it on one day while carrying in groceries for DW. I set a box on the cook-top and must have bumped the front knob with the box.
A few minutes later I smelled cardboard burning, then saw a thin curl of smoke from inside the box. Knocked the box on the floor and turned the knob back to off.

There is one good thing about an induction cooktop. Even if you accidentally turn it on, it will not get hot until you put that induction pot or pan on it. Furthermore, most of us keep the cutting board covers on when not in use.

Now all is well, of course, until it malfunctions, but I don’t know if that has ever happened. I reckon there’s a first time for everything.
