Keep in mind that once you answer the call you just confirmed the number is valid and the owner of the number is will to accept a call. As such your number just got upgrade and probably sold a few more times.

Local, out of state, private, or anything where I don’t recognize the number I send to voice mail without exception then usually end up blocking the number. I also only have cell service. No land lines.

THIS! And I never enable the ringer on my phone. Vibrate only. I return calls if necessary, but only if they leave a voice message. My kids know to text me.

"Hello, Mason County Sheriffs Office, Fraud Division, Officer Daniels, how may I help you?" That usually ends it...

Much as want to do evil to those calls, I try and remember that any actual human on the call didn't choose to be a telemarketer because they had a bunch of better choices. I usually don't answer or if I do, I hang up while the automated dialer gets a live body on the line. On the rare occasions when a person is on the line I semi-politely tell them "thanks for calling, but I am not interested, please remove me from your calling list" and hang up before they can respond. At least that person is trying to earn a living instead of expecting the government to take care of them.

this pretty much sums up my attitude as well. there's no value in being disagreeable or confrontational. those folks are just trying to earn a living but at the same time we don't wantb as i posted earlier our NoMoRoBo intercepts 98% of the spam.

I use an Internet phone service, www.viatalk.com, and they have an option to require non-whitelisted numbers enter a four-digit code.

They also usually run 2-for-1 specials on holidays.

Since turning that option a year ago precisely one telemarketer has gotten through.

If I had a 2 year old grandchild I'd pass the phone to the kid & let the kid deal with it.

Depending on my mood and time i will:
1. String them along for as long as i can and when they are ready to give up i ask to speak to their supervisor.
2. I answer the phone with: "Good day, this is Sargent Johnson with the fraud department of the Jefferson County Sheriff's office. Can I have your name and how can i help you". Usually a quick hangup.
