How much do you tip?
Just curious as to how much you normally tip these days restaurant servers and others? We normally tip 20% if the service is good, maybe 10% or sometimes nothing if the service is bad!

20% almost all the time unless they were bad.

usually around 20% for excellent service, 10-15% for mediocre service, and if the service is really horrible I leave a few pennies so the server won't think I forgot to tip -

What about if you order a Pizza and pick it up at the drive-thru window and then they give you an option to add a tip on the credit card slip to sign?

Drive through windows I'll give a dollar and if there is coin change I'll add that.
Otherwise in restaurants it's 20%.

We usually tip 20% but in that case, no.

Tip amount varies at sit down service restaurants. Really bad service nets the server zero,, good service up to 20%.
I sometimes give a dollar or two to a car hop at places like Sonic drive in.
On credit card slip,, very rarely. I always hand the tip straight to my waiter/waitress if possible.

The dog needs to spend that money on dogfood instead of ciggies.

At times, I have tipped over 100 percent. Like the time I accidentally walked into a favorite local restaurant 4 minutes before closing time, discovered my mistake, and was treated like a king by the entire staff.
Anymore, I try to avoid places that ask for tips because it is so annoying. Any sense of service is lost. Why should I add 20 percent to a bill when I walked to the counter, I filled and refilled my drinks, I went looking for an extra napkin, I found my own seat, I bussed my own table...
They put the food on the table... It would be difficult to do any less and still be a restaurant.
We have two places we go that I gladly tip. One is a huge steak house chain, one is a family owned Mexican food place. The servers at both really ADD to the enjoyment of the meal. Most other places, I am just as happy eating in the car, for all of the attention that the staff showers on me. (sarcastic)

Lots of factors go into how much we tip.
When our kids were little, admittedly, I was a cheep tipper.
Now, if we can afford an RV and traveling, we are better off than many others.
Our kids all have Masters degrees and are doing better than we were at their age. They will be fine.
A couple of our kids worked as a server while in college. That kinda changed my outlook on tipping for service.
We usually tip 20%, but several times (1 or 2 scurrying to cover a whole room) I have tipped as much as 50% for good service and to thank them for being there.
One time our home A/C went out on a particularly hot 100+ degree day. I called a friend of our son's (in the business). He came over within an hour and replaced a bad capacitor. I gave him $100 tip. WELL worth it.
Come on you all... Loosen up. Many of the people who serve us could make more money sitting home playing video games, but they don't. I'd like for them to be there the next time we go there.
Tim
