I guess anyplace can call themselves a resort
Since im a noob at this traveling deal, i have noticed that some places call themselves a resort when its really nothing more than an empty field with hookups..
So what makes a resort, are there even any standards at all. When i hear that word i think of words like plush, comfort, ammenities, activities and all of that stuff. But in the real world this is just not true, resort could actually just be a rest stop of any kind the way some places use the word.

I would wager there is no actual requirments to be called a resort short of calling a sign company to print it.
I use the RvParky app and read every review and go from there.

According to MW Dictionary: "a frequently visited place : haunt (2) : a place designed to provide recreation, entertainment, and accommodation especially to vacationers : a community or establishment whose purpose or main industry is catering to vacationers"
Nothing in that definition infers anything specific..which is why parks frequently use "Resort" in their name.

I believe many "resorts" should have last included in their name.

This is part of the reason why we are "planners" and always check out a campground or resort thoroughly online, read reviews, check website/facebook page, my husband will even Google Earth the location to see what the satellite image shows.
God bless those that can just take off and go and not know where you are staying till you get there.
We just aren't built that way. We need to know what we are driving in to.

I am assuming that outdoor showers are a thing of the past now days. The ones here dont look like they have been updated since the civil war.

I think to be called a resort it needs to say "Resort" on the sign out front.
Very similar to what it takes a bar to be called a Tiki Bar.

Plus they advertise things that are no longer there. I ask - oh i saw that as a feature on the website, their reply - oh we got rid of that years ago.. :(
One solution would be for the state business license commission to ask them about their business, like "what makes you a resort"

Another scam using words is "Certified Pre Owned" when talking about used cars. Bm and Merc dealers are famuous users of this term.
We bought a "Certified Pre Owned" car from one such dealer. The DW did the test drive and the day after i noticed the radio didn't work and the HI speed on the blower motor. I drove it back to the lot and was irate enough they admitted these vehicles are bought at auction, delivered, washed and put straight on the lot. They depend on initial build quality (UN LIKE RVS!) to get the car thru the checks and warranty period. And at the time, 3 years ago there were no actual standards.

LOL expensive driveway, not even a continental breakfast
Another loose term is "certificate of authenticity" which means nothing really.
