I hate it when my daughter teaches me something about cars

Last night my daughter texted me and asked if I knew what the "W" meant in 10W30 oil.

I said "Of Course" it means Weight.

A couple of minutes later I received: "No, it means Winter".
Apparently they indicate the lower viscosity number by the term "Winter".

So...how many of you did not believe this and googled it yourself?

The second thing I learned last night was that Jefferson is on the $2 bill.

Enough learning for the week

\Regards,

Dan

Yes, both of those statements are true! The lower viscosity number such as 10 or 5 refer to the winter compatibility of the oil, so it will flow better.

I am a Canadian and I don't recall seeing a U.S. $2 bill.
I did not know about the winter thing either.

In 1961 a friend went to California. He was sitting in a coffee shop and pulled out a $2 bill to pay his tab for coffee. A police officer tapped him on the shoulder and then asked what he was trying to pull with a "$2" bill. He escorted my friend across the street to the bank. The bank exchanged the $2 for two $1 bills and across the street to the coffee shop they went. He present a $1 bill and everything was great again.

I have a couple in a strong box. I'm just hoarding them until they are worth a $Million.

p.s., I always thought the "W" stood for 10 Weight 30 Weight but knew that the lower viscosity was for cold weather and the higher for warmer weather.

Wonder why it's not 10W30S (S for summer)

I worked for a bank back when I earned an honest living. One day someone presented a $2 bill at the teller window, and the young teller didn't know what the heck was going on.

Doesn't Canada use $2 coins?

Have known this since my teens.. that was half a century ago.

Of course back then I lived where WINTER meant WINTER.
