my take on it, is
1st. you get email if auto subscribed to thread, an most of conversation is in that.
2nd. i think ppl that are not use to software used on forum, don't know how to get back to thread.
3rd. i understand the minor fustration, as person that answered it would like to know if that fixed problem or did that help, ect..

I've always found that odd as well. You're read a post with 30 replies and the only one by the OP was the original question. I think some people are just space cadets and actually forget they even posted a question.

It is a good question. It is nice to know if you have been helping or the problem is solved.
I find it helps to actually ask somewhere along the dialogue how the OP is doing or what happened? Some respond others not. Also just make sure that each of us is not guilty of the same thing.
I'll look forward to your response.

I've started two threads here, one with 1k posts and the other with 2k posts. I've commented in both at least twice

what could also be done, is email generated by system, just state that you have a response to your question with a link to it, an thats it, no answer's to post in it.

I like to see how, or if the problem is resolved and often learn from others responses/solutions.

Here is one better, Just about daily folks ask for help with a problem and have no information in their profile or don't even mention any information in their posting so folks can help them..........have to ask, what are you working on?

It looks like some don't know how to use the signature or don't want to.

...or those responders who don't bother to read the entire thread to see the answers given. Thus you have 10 people who respond with the exact same answer. lol

Just picture that you're sitting around a campfire, and consider each post a person talking, and the person that started the current subject of the conversation sitting there nodding their head in thanks for the input.
Not everyone needs the "strokes", and are satisfied with being able to give their opinion/information, and knowing the combined information was probably a benefit to the masses, not necessarily only to an individual.
IMHO

Thanks!!!
One thing to consider . . .
There is a "Thanks" button at the bottom right of each post. I use it fairly often to thank someone for answering a question or for what I think is a particularly insightful post. As far as I know, only that person you've thanked by using that feature is aware that you've used it. Perhaps that feature is being used more than we might think.
I get a "Thanks" via that button now and then . . . I like it. Even if I don't get a thanks, either by further posts or by the button, I feel good if I've answered a question or otherwise provided some assistance to someone. Kinda like dropping some money into the Salvation Army bell ringer's pot.
Thanks!
