Calling all Indiana Experts

There's a thread with a lot of current questions about road conditions and detours in Indiana on this thread. Thought I'd throw this out here in case any of you have some answers. I'm ashamed to say I've not heard of a lot of these roads and have gotten so used to avoiding some areas I can't speak to their current conditions.

Happy Fall...........well almost!!! As much as I love Christmas Time, Spring and Summer - Fall is fastly becoming my favorite season.............not sure why??

Camping season is quickly coming to an end in this part of the country - we have had a busy time.........visited Prophetstown, Starve Hollow, Clifty Falls, Deam Lake, Brookville SRAs along with a trip back to Upstate NY to visit family. Stayed at a private CG in NY, nice park and a KOA in Erie, PA that was super nice but I must say - we are very lucky to have the state parks we have here in Indiana.

We currently have plans for Brookville - heading there on 22 October for the weekend and Prophetstown - heading there on the 30th of October for the weekend. Checking the state park web site, it appears none of these weekends are the Trick or Treat weekends I have heard so much about.

Looking for some suggestions for the weekend of 16 October - anything good happening out there?

And..........anyone is welcome to join us for our scheduled trips..........let me know and I'll pass on our camp site numbers........

Y'all take care........

Glenn

Ditto on loving fall!!? We will be at Prophetstown Oct 30-31 too. Going to Purdue/Nebraska game with our girls - 4th yr in a row to go camping for a football weekend. Kind of becoming a tradition. Although not listed as an official event, I'm pretty sure there will be trick or treating on Saturday night. I know we'll have candy and are hoping others do too so our girls can have some fun going site to site (they are 8 and 5). We will be in the front section (full hookup). It'll probably be our last trip of the year, so full hookup is nice so I can get the tanks nice and clean w/o holding up the dumpstation line. Do you know your site number?

Heading to Paynetown SRA from Oct. 8-17. Looking forward to some good hiking and kayaking in the backwater. We will probably take some time to run over to Versailles for a day and explore that park.

Indy Glenn- Oct. 16-18 is the end of the covered bridge festival in the Parke county area. Other than that, I've not seen any large events.

I live in Lafayette, visit Prophetstown frequently for a nice walk and eagle watching.

Also wanted to report we had a wonderful weekend at Raccoon Lake state recreation area this weekend. Well maintained campground, beautiful lake, friendly folks. A lot of unlevel sites, so do your homework.
Had a great time showing the girls some of the covered bridges and the Bridgetown mill. Plan to go back again.

That is great to hear and timely. We're going there this weekend and weren't sure what to expect.

We are busy too, unfortunately we are at Brookville Mounds Oct 2nd, A week of vacation to somewhere warm Oct 10th -18th.....any ideas? Mobile Alabama....Myrtle Beach......
Then back to Cornerstone Oct 23rd for a Halloween night for the grandchildren, including decorating the coach. Of course the real Halloween will be spent with the grandchildren gathering candy.
There is always November, plus we have always wanted to decorate a tree near Christmas time in a campground.
Glenn, we will catch you somewhere!

We are in site 120, you?

We may go tailgate with friends but will not be attending the game.

Look at this page from the camp site - looks like Halloween is celebrated the weekend before - there is a Barn Dance on the 30th of October!
http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/files..._september.pdf

Last year we were at Racoon Lake on Halloween and not one Trick or Treater!!

Please stop by our site - I am sure there will be treats to be found.

Eagles

There are two active nests in the area that I know of. Take a hike on trails 3 and 4. At the intersection of those two trails look to the wood line-huge old Sycamore. You will also see a sign that says "No Hiking Beyond This
Sign" or something to that effect. The sign was placed to keep people from the area around the nest. It's very common to see the adults hanging around the confluence of the rivers.

This time of year, the young have fledged. If you see a motley looking large bird, you are probably seeing a young eagle.

Also, the area has a good number of redtail hawks.

Good luck and let us know what you see!
