I hope this is for any hoosier rver. DW and myself are now in Indianapolis area (Greenfield, Heartland resort) in our '98 40DVS American Dream. DW was born in Kokomo, raised in Elwood. Me? born and raised in OH, but, thanks to Uncle Sam I have been all over. Now, retired due to senior qualifications, we reside full time and living the dream in our American Dream.

We bought our Dream Nov '18 "as is" for 31,000 with 169,000 miles on her. Would love to meet other hoosiers who are here and enjoying full timing or otherwise. We are learning like crazy about the rv life. Many are saying it is an expensive lifestyle, and on my SSA and VA income I am finding that our but DIY ability is sure helping me.

Love living full time, it is like a glorified efficiency apt and much cheaper. Having fun in my senior years.

Hi Jim and Nicole, welcome to the Indiana group! There are some great people in here!! My wife and I do not full time, yet but, hopefully one of these days we will be able to! We absolutely love to go campin! We are actually going this coming weekend to a place called Summit lake. There is a wood fire pizza place by the campground we want to go to. The temps are supposed to be up close to 60 degrees, perfect campin weather :-)

Greetings Jim and Nicole!

Doug and Elaine, sure wish I was ready to get the coach out, but still shaking it down. This weekend looks perfect and Summit will be nice.
Enjoy.....while I’m climbing all over the rig and hopefully changing the 10 gallons of oil, 2 oil filters and installing a Fumoto Oil Plug.

Patty and I drove through Brown County, Paynetown and Hardin Ridge today looking for sites the Bird will fit in.
Holy cow after 16 years of judging 35 feet, I can’t tell 40 from 44.
It looks like Hardin Ridge might become our next “go to” campground. They have some sites we will fit into.
Waiting for a bit warmer weather to head out and continue our shakedown.
Come on spring. Course we know Indy Glenn is already experiencing spring[emoji853][emoji6]

Roll call indiana members

Man, it sure got quiet over here. I think I hear crickets. What's goin' on past my western border? I hope everyone is OK?

We're OK here in Buckeye Quarrantineland. Haven't gone anywhere except the grocery & pharmacy since mid-March. Well, that's not true. I had surgery, but that doesn't count. OH campgrounds open this coming Thursday.....just in time for Memorial Day wknd. I snagged a nicely roomy site for the following wknd at a local CG. First time out since last Oct. 7 months with NO CAMPING SUCKS!

So - - - how did you do??

And no - we never did have Spring - - we went from winter right into Summer with hot and humid weather. It was refreshing to get home and enjoy 40, 50, & 60° temps.....LOL

As far as Indiana state camp sites - they list the actual length of the site on their reservation page. I often will reserve a site of 35' for my 40' motor home - I just have to fib a tad on the reservation as far as the length off my rig.

Hope all is well and the new rig is living up to expectations.

Present....

We stayed an extra month in Florida because there were very few covid cases in the county we stay in versus here in Indiana, where cases continue to grow in number.

We also are hunkered down but busy with a lot around the house after a long absence.

We have reservations for the 4th to get the pup away from the fireworks and Anchor Down in October.....

Has anyone ever experienced driving into Love Bugs...... Man - what a mess. On the way home, I had to stop 3 times in a 90 miles stretch to clean the windshield just to see - - they were that bad.. If we weren't in a lock down - - I'd have a "Clean The Front Of My Rig" party.....It's that bad. LOL

Other than that - - I have experienced a lot in life, I figured the chapters in my memoirs were just about done for the exciting stuff - - - guess not.

Take care everyone - be safe....

Greetings

Hello from East Central IN. We are like most, disappointed that we can't get out and explore. However, as a teacher that has shifted to an elearning format, I have been able use the camper as my new classroom. Each day I walk out to the camper and hold class. It makes me feel like I a still going to work. My wife nurse has been crazy busy will all of this mess. On top of that, she had hip surgery and is now home recovering.

However, we haven't had the dreaded Covid and are trying to stay that way.

Thanks for responding. Wishes for a speedy recovery for your wife, Scott.

Tom/Patty? What are ya?

@Glenn - Haven't experienced Love Bugs but did experience may flies coming back from Grand Lake St. Mary's one Spring. It was a much briefer phenomenon, but we went through a swarm & had to pull off the road to clean the bugs off the driver's side windshield. Ick!

Glenn, I am not getting notifications and have been so busy keeping up with two motor homes barely have time for anything else. I saw a picture of the love bugs on the front of a MH, it was horrible.

The Bird has now had 10 filters changed, 12.5 gallons of oil (inc 2.5 gallons for the genset), 14 gallons of anti freeze, many busted knuckles, oil all over my face and body (that's another story, Patty laughed at me and reminded me of the scarcity of paper towels) and the air dryer/air governor replaced. We are slowly getting it to a starting point for us to maintain regularly. Tomorrow it goes to Allison for two more filters and 9-10 gallons of transynd. I am exhausted just writing this!! It will all be worth it, the Bird drives fantastic! Plus, we have the musical Blue Bird horn!!!!

Saturday we are showing the Alpine to a person from northern Minnesota. I will change the engine oil and genset oil on it Saturday morning. Then all spring work on it has been done

Travel with Patty to Montana, Utah, New Mexico and Colorada is planned for mid June....work. Then back home and some Indiana camping

Stay safe everyone and speedy recovery for your wife Scott. She will feel so much better...probably already does.

Maybe time to put together a little rally.

Good to hear from you T 'n P.

Sounds like you are getting things "squared-away" on the Bird. It has to be a definite feeling of satisfaction.

Love Bugs are awful. I still need to get my rig to the house and finish cleaning the front end - but chores have taken precedence and weather hasn't been cooperating.

When people were leaving our winter quarters camp ground - one Wisconsin neighbor said he was going to leave on a Friday, unless it rained on Thursday - then he would leave Thursday. ????? So I asked the obvious - why would you want to drive in the rain? Love Bugs was all he said - - - - now I understand.

Our first stop on our trip home is just east of Tallahassee. Not too many people in the camps on our way home but right next to us was a Newmar Ventana. Looked like it was right out of the box. Well - the couple came out to leave when Angie and I were cleaning the front of the rig. He looked and said they came up from Orlando and had to clean their rig also as it was just as bad. Hmmmm. Either he had to knock off the 2 or 3 bugs or they are total pros. After they left, a kinda looked hard at the front of their motor home and it was cleaner than when I picked mine up brand new from the dealer.......LOL Me thinks they may have exaggerated a tad. BTW - - We hit the bugs between LaBelle, FL and Okeechobee, FL (farm/ranch country) where we started headed north. The bug problems diminished as we went north and by the time we hit Orlando - was non existent. Just sayin'...

Montana......I'm jealous. In a previous life, I lived with a girl from Montana and we went often to her home town. A little town called Harloton or better known as "Harlo". It was small - population of 900 back 35 years ago. No stop light - no tourist traps - just natural beauty, immensely large ranches (everything is larger than life), cowboys & cowgirls, all terrain vehicles, great steaks, and cowboy boots. I loved it!!!! (I still wear cowboy boots!!)

Where in Montana are you heading? I'd love to go back and up to Glacier Park...

A little know fact....... Where we winer in Florida, it is mid state in SW FLA, it is rural with orange groves and cattle ranches. Believe it or not, Florida boasts more cattle than Texas. Huh.....! LOL

Well - - enough of my and my past.....good memories tho......

Need to clean up as I am heading to Costco this morning - OH BOY - - someplace to go!!!! Hahahahaha

Take care Hoosiers, be safe,

g

We have been working on the Bird for 4 weekends now.

This weekend Patty did her organization and I detailed most of the coach.
We will head for M and M Electronics in the near future to have a repair done to our Intelletec.
We should be good to go for a year at least. Hope to see you out there! Travel safe.
Tom and Patty.!
