Kids arm tugging for the horn…..

When I was a little kid and we went on long trips, I would do the arm pump to get truckers to blow their air horn. It always made me smile and happy when they obliged with a quick blast of the horn. I’m not sure how common that is with kids anymore nowadays. Since I got my coach, I’ve kinda secretly hoped that one day some kid would give me the arm pump request. It happened last weekend when the wife and I took a trip to the great smokey mtns. I looked down as the car was passing, and a young boy was giving the tug sign. I gave him a quick toot-toot blast! His face lit up with a smile, and he and both parents waved in appreciation. It brought back some really old memories, when things were seemingly much more simple in the world. And it put a huge smile on my face. I’m curious if anyone else had kids give you the arm tug?

I still do it, especially at parades to get the fire trucks to blast their horns...

Many years ago (in the forties) a train ran by my Grandparents house. There was a train that went by a few nights a week at 9pm. When we heard him toot at a nearby crossing we would get ready and when it went past the house we would flash the yard light a couple times and be treated to a special tune played on the whistle.

I am the worst with the air horns. If I go thru a neighborhood and/or pass by houses close to the road I always hit the horn. I call it “the living too close to the road tax”. Forget if someone cuts me off. I lay on that thing until I drain the tank. I also oblige with the kiddos giving me the blaster signal. Not sure the parents are always as happy.

When we leave our son's house after a several day visit, our three grandsons always run out to climb up on the fence. I get the biggest smile on my face when all three are giving me the arm tug to blow the air horn. They love it when I give them a couple of good blasts.
It's often the simplest things in life that give us the greatest pleasures.

Not sure if kids today will raise their faces up out of the phone/tablet long enough to notice or even know about 'toot toot'

During our travels have had couple kids do the 'pig nose/stick out tongue' at me as they passed.
*they really get a kick when I 'moon' them back

I always toot the horn while in tunnels. Most of the time someone toots back.
Give me the arm pump, and I'll toot. Shows the kids don't have their nose stuck in a cell phone

They would be very disappointed in my case. No air horn just a measly little beep.

What's the point of having a air horn if not used at least a few times every ride?

Haven't seen kids paying attention to the road in years. Heck most drivers are tuned out as well.

You all are making me wish I had more than the pathetic horn I do have in my rig.
