Be praying for your success

Now, during surgery and after. Hang in there - it’s all a process!

Hang in there !!!

I had 3’ of my small intestine removed about 4 years ago . I can honestly say I wouldn’t wish that on no one and the reconnect was as bad as the first surgery and I wouldn’t wish that on no one . I was on treatment for 2 years and could eat anything I wanted until I got diagnosed with malignant melanoma stage 3 . After getting the cancer removed and finding out they couldn’t give me the follow up treatment for cancer they also abruptly stopped my Crohns treatment. I learned real quickly that it’s what you eat that causes all the problems . After struggling for months my DW asked if we could just have a guide . The Doc told us to get a App called FODMAP . What a difference it’s made for me . I totally control everything by diet and I’m sure by using that app it might help you after your surgery and hopefully your reconnect. I’m now able to control my disease by diet very easily and that app helped me know which were my trigger foods and I’m now a ale to avoid them very easily . Statistics show that you typically go back for another surgery within 5-8 years . I’m hoping to avoid that and praying for the same for you . Changing the diet after all of these years isn’t easy and it takes some reprogramming but it’s really worth it . Hope all goes well and that bland diet is only temporary. The App gives you res lights and green lights and if you tap on it it will give you quantities. We have tweaked it and we know what works for me and what doesn’t . When I start feeling bad I just open the app and see why I’ve been eating and determine what it was that I shouldn’t have been eating and it allows me to adjust . Good luck and hope everything goes as you planned

similar surgery

I had surgery to remove about a foot of colon and went from the emergency room to the table in three days. It took about five hours and they gutted me like a fish to get to it. Recovery took another three weeks in the hospital until they were satisfied my plumbing was working well enough that I could go home. It took another two weeks before I started feeling good again. You should just relax and take it as it comes and you will be fine. In recovery after the surgery they put me on morphine and gave me a button to push as needed. My wife tells me that I pushed it alot, although it didn't give me any medication each time. After a week I told them they could take it away.

By the way, my surgery was done by the VA hospital in Charleston, SC and they saved my life. The VA may have issues at some of their facilities but others give world class care and this was one of the world class regions. I can't say enough about what the VA did for me and what they are doing now to help other veterans. They are working hard for all of us.

This will be #6 to do the final reconnect.
Had problems after 1st that ended up having to do a Ileostomy and try and let Colon repairs heal but then ended up with a bleeder that required a colostomy (along with the Ileostomy)

Ileo was reversed and now time for colo to be reversed

All good....

The VA has been my Primary Med Care 12 yrs. Always done right by me.
These surgeries were outside their 'scope' so outsourced to a Specialist and HE/Hospital have been top notch----I have just been a problem child patient

THANKS EVERYONE for the prayers and well wishes.......all are much appreciated

^^^^ What all of them have said.

I have learned a LOT from reading your postings.

I will add you, your surgeons and the hospital staff on my church's prayer list.

It’s so worth it! I’m 8 years post gastric sleeve and my only regret is not doing it sooner. Remember each day the reasons why you’ve made this life changing decision. Remember what it feels like now.

You’ll do fine! A lot of us get it and are pulling for you and encouraging you daily.

I'm pulling for you Byron! I was released from hospital Monday afternoon, now house-bound for two weeks when the surgeon releases me.
Take care my friend and brother-in-arms. I'm confident the surgery will be a complete success!

Not sure how to respond
Didn't have a gastric sleeve nor were any of my 6 surgeries 'elective'

Thanks?
