Completely agree - the only problem (so far) is that if you can imagine life of the universe is 14 billion years and the 'life' of a solar system, let's say 4 billion years and then the planet that is the right distance from the sun for life develops life and that life evolves to the state of 'man' over say 700 million years and 'man' evolves to a conscious being for 50,000 years and then completely screws up the planet in the next 2000.

So although there may be life out there, probably in lots and lots of places, it is unlikely to be in the same time period as us, when we detect it it will have been long dead and gone and unless we detect it in the next 100 years we probably won't be here to find it anyway.

In the year plus that the Mars Rover has been operating, there has been absolutely no evidence of beer, ESPN or porn. This conclusively rules out the possibility that men are from Mars.

Read Stephan Hawkings essays on why we shouldn't make efforts to contact other forms of life. He has some good points.

Every generation has had those who believe it's all coming to an end soon. So far they've been wrong. I prefer to think that our big monkey brains will save us from whatever doom is looming. It's what we're best at, adapting and solving problems.

Maybe the Martians way of adapting was to move here? We will certainly have the technology to do the same within the next 100 or so years.

NASA has just recently announced that extraterrestrial life has been discovered on our own moon in the form of very tiny little bugs....................they are calling them lunar ticks.

I don't think they are exclusively on the moon. I'm pretty sure there are two of them in the house across the street.
