Mars Science Lab Sticks Touchdown in Gold Medal Performance

The United States - Mars Science Laboratory, Curiosity has arrived! Live pictures from MSL show a shadow of itself superimposed on the Martian surface. Truly a mission that was fraught with doubt, the promise fulfilled, Curiosity is alive and well having stuck its landing. Curiosity will soon begin its mission to explore Mars for traces of life sustaining elements that is expected to reveal if life ever existed on Mars. This is a moment in time that I will not soon forget. I am glad that I woke up for those moments preceding the controller's exuberant announcement; "Touchdown!"

Amazing. It's great to see NASA get a quick win after the body blows they've taken recently with their mission being "modified".

That's pretty neat. Thanks for sharing. They had a special on at noon today but of course I missed it.

MADE IN USA

The mission is managed by JPL for NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. The rover was designed, developed and assembled at JPL. JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

11 year old granddaughter and I stayed up to 0200 ish watching it live
you would have thought by the way the control room team were high fiving and carrying on that we had just placed a live man there

it was really interesting to watch and see the telemetry
a parcel the size of a vw bug....

only a few sour notes
one of the controllers had a weird Mohawk hair cut and really didn't look very professional...but hey it was in California
