Memorial Day

I don't post here much anymore but my son-in-law made a post on his business facebook page ( "Acadiana Gunworks" ) today that to me sums up memorial day perfectly I thought I would share.....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today when on my way to the shop an individual told me "Have a happy Memorial day weekend." I said thanks and walked away but afterwords I felt bad. I should have corrected him. Since the opportunity to correct him has passed. I feel I should reach out to as many people as I can and deliver the message.

Memorial day is not a happy day. It is a solemn day. A day to look back at our past as Americans and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who sacrificed years of their lives, so we could be here today as a free people.

For me personally, having been to Iraq twice, I remember those in my unit that fell in combat there, I pray for them and their families. Some I knew, some I never met but they are all brothers in arms.
I also look back to the day in 1998 when they buried my grandfather, Walter James Sluga, in Arlington National Cemetery. I remember the horse drawn caisson bringing him to his final resting place after having fought in three wars for our freedom (World War II, Korea, and Vietnam). I still remember the 21 gun salute and the sound of Taps being played.

Remember the fallen.

So savor the BBQ or whatever you cook, camping and time with family and friends. Just remember those who gave all so you are able to do so...............

And remember tho THANK those you know who served. To those of you on the forum who did serve, THANK YOU for your service!
