Exchange Fees

We do a lot of international traveling. Get a Charles Schwab debit card account. You can set it up and fund it online. There are NO transaction fees, NO foreign currency fees and NO ATM use fees EVER. They even pay a little bit of interest on your debit card balance.

I haven't had to use a currency exchange service in years.

I hate to carry cash on me. So I use credit cards wherever I go. It's safe and you don't have to worry about the exchange rates.

Always good to have some cash with you. We stopped for fuel in a remote part of the Yukon where there weren't many stations around. Communications were down and the station could only accept cash. Almost emptied my wallet of CN currency, but we were able to move forward with a full tank.

Currently in Alaska after traveling through Canada last week. Used a no exchange fee credit card everywhere without a hitch. Only place we needed Canadian dollars was for washing/ drying clothes. Used our bank debit card at an ATM machine. Roads aren't bad this year. Less gravel than last, but still major frost heaves north of Beaver Creek and before Tok. Alaskan highways are terrible, worse than last year.
