FINALLY saw it last night. A greenish fuzzy thing to the lower left side of the dipper part of the big dipper. Too many lights where I live though so I couldn't see it with naked eye.

I went back to the lake last night. Less haze, but clouds. The first was a little after sunset, and the other around 11:00.

Barely. I noticed some of the younger folks didn't have a problem, but my 75 year old eyes had to work hard even at 11:00. There was quite a bit of spill light in the area...

ahh ok... Yah I was looking last night.. Looks like no significant outgassing in the last couple days and the mag went down to 4. I could still see with binoculars though about the same as a fe2w days ago when it was closest. It didn't get that close to the sun so there probably won't be anything beyond what we see now..

Back in 2012 or 2013 Ison was supposed to be the comet of the century. That sucker got bright near the sun but we couldn't see it because of the position to the comet to the sun, and it's perihelion was damn close to the sun. Then it dove in and broke up. It came out on the other side, but what was left melted off pretty fast. That's the one I was waiting a year or so for back then. It was a Hale Bopp type comet. It would have followed our orbit after going around the sun, and would have been visible for over a year like Hale Bopp. I was so upset when it broke up :( It's perihelion was too close to the sun.

I for a if I avert my gaze a bit and use my periferal vision (something you learn in boot camp) I can see it, but if I look directly a it its gone. I’m at the coast wih summer go off and on for the rest of the week though so probably no star gazing for me. I’ll shoot BIF off the cliff instead.
