New Leash On Life

Our 13 year old 100+ pound Lab/ Plot Hound mix passed on in March. We began looking for another lab mix. Have always had rescues. Found a lovely little 18 month old yellow Lab/Grey Hound mix in a minimum security state prison program called "New Leash on Life" doggie boot camp. She was returned to the pet shelter when her second owner, a Marine, was deployed overseas
The "BARK BRIGADE" has 6 inmates train 6 rescue dogs in an 8 week program. The dogs live 24 hours a day for the 1st week in the cells with the inmates. Next 7 weeks the dogs spend 12 hours a day with inmates. They are house broken, taught manners, obedience, rally/agility skills.
We were invited to Cali's graduation at the prison with the other adoptive parents. We brought her home that day and the inmates got 6 more dogs to start training. This is Cali's third time out. The program is a benefit to both dogs and inmates.

I've heard a lot about that program. It works! Sorry to hear about your loss but Congrats on the new family member. Sometimes filling that void is the only cure for a broken heart.

Sorry for your loss.

Sounds like a good program. I smiled at some of the terminology that you used.

Thanks.

Our regrets to the OP for your loss and all the best with your new furry family member...and thanks for picking a rescue pup vs. a dog from a breeder.
Our rescue group is: Sunny Saints, Southern California St. Bernard Rescue - Welcome

That inmate program sounds wonderful for the pups and the inmates.

Safe travels
