No wonder ...I finally get it...

The following is a quote from Ogden Nash....

"If you don't want to work, you have to work to earn enough money so that you don't have to work."

At that rate I'll never get to not work.

Ken,

You'll never get enough to not need (or want) more.

With the volatility of the stock market today and the income you can generate off of savings (zilch! ), I think most of us working stiffs are in that boat. The time comes, though, when you look in the money bucket and say, "OK, I'll give retirement a shot." I hope to do that on December 31, 2013.

Of course, if the world comes to an end on December 21, 2012, I'll regret not buying that Ferrari and a Prevost Marathon to pull it behind.

I though I was there. I sure had worked hard enough for plenty of years, but just about then some decided that all that work needed to be "redistributed" to people who worked less and got paid more than I did most of my life. Someone needs to explain to me why this was "fair".

You get the story only if you buy the beer.

If I get past 21 DEC 2012, I plan to tell them to "Take this job and shove it." on 15 July 1213. I will have worked enough to be totally sick and tired of it and hopefully enough to do it...or put the other half to work for a while.

Could you wait until the next day, the 16th, as that's my birthday and it would be nice if something good ever happened on it.

I'm retired for 4 years, 2 months, and 26 days - but who's counting?

My new full-time job is trying to train the DW to adjust her spending to the new and smaller income stream.

So far I haven't had any success.

I have a few friends that have themselves sorta trapped into too high an income bracket and lifestyle to retire in the fashion they now prefer to live in - so HAVE to keep working to continue to maintain that lifestyle...

Sure glad my wife and I were raised poor, and pretty much lived that way all our lives - I had a decent job, retired early in '96 at age 60 - and we've continued to live as well and better than when we were still working...
