I too have heard good things about JC Refrigeration. So much so that when I start planning the summer trip back east I'm going to have mine done en-route!

It now works wonderfully and we love it. It now keeps 0=5 freezer and 35-40 refrig temps on #2-4 and used to have higher temps 20~ freezer 40’s refrig at higher settings.
Since you got the helium unit, you shouldn't need the halon fire extinguisher. Helium isn't flammable like the hydrogen units.

After reading many horror stories and seeing pics on this forum, we decided that there are many other possible fire causes and for about $150 it seemed like a
Good extra safety measure.

We also have our 97 yr old mum sleeping in the bedroom and she would have no chance of using the tiny escape window. So we have done all we can do to protect against fire, including extra large fire extinguishers for us to use to get to her in an emergency.

Amish

I got tired of soft ice cream and put in a Amish coils. I should have done this years ago. Now if I can only get a insignia that say Amish Unit to cover the Norcold.

True, the helium is not flammable, but the propane burner, flue and even the coil still can cause a fire. We did the helium to reduce the risk but more safety seems like a good idea.

helium

I have heard that helium does not work as well in hot weather. I love hard ice cream.

I can only say what JC told us which was that their coils are especially designed for helium. Our own experience has been the new Amish unit is far superior to the original Norcold unit. We now use temp settings from 2-4 instead of 6+ and we achieve much lower temps in both the freezer and main refer compartment. On a recent trip we had freezer temps of +4 and refer temps of 35-38. That was on #2. In warmer outside temps we go up to 4 and achieve similar temps inside the refer compartments.

Before we had the Amish unit, freezer temps seldom were under +10 and keeping the refer below +40 was difficult.
To be fair, I should note that we also had two exterior fans added, as well as an interior circulating fan which probably help as well.
