Can Oarfish Predict Earthquakes?

I think you are right Richard... Animals/creatures can sense a lot more than some give them credit for......

If it was in the Gulf of Mexico, I would wonder about all that chemical-laced oil still waiting down there, like some 50's low budget movie monster that will someday rise to terrorize our pristine white beaches again.

Oarfish, for the most part, are excellent swimmers also.

We had read that Oarfish are poor swimmers, and that even ocean currents can bring them up to their demise. Of course if that is accurate, we wonder why we don't see more of them. They are a magnificent looking creature.
