I actually grew up about 60 miles east in Rhinelander.

Believe it or not temps are much milder then when I grew up. But it never slowed us down, ice fishing in the winter was a big sport. Actually helped to because the ice would freeze faster so we could drive on it

I know where Rhinelander is. Ogema is a bit south and west of it. Ogema is near Timms Hill the highest point in Wisconsin and is also the coldest spot. From what I hear it has not warmed up all that much if you just look at lows. What has changed is those lows only last a few weeks instead of months. So in that regard it has warmed up a lot.

The record low in Ogema was -38 degrees.

And I complain when it hits +38° here in CA.

Glenn

Worst I ever had was 32° below with a 15MPH wind with whatever wind chill that would generate.

Wind chill is the worst. I’ve had my face freeze.

Are you sure you wouldn't prefer Ogemaw County in Michigan? My wife grew up there. The lake effect keeps that part of the state a fair bit warmer in winter than the temps you're talking about.

Strong Republican county. I like it however 38 people per square mile is too crowded. Ogema is around 9 per square mile.

Both are around 93 males for every 100 females. I’m single.

I like this home. I want to buy a home in Wisconsin and then snowbird south in the winter.

Looks nice, didn't see when it was built. Wonder how well it is insulated.

Built in 1910 if I remember right. Completely remodeled five years ago. I asked to see the heating bills. In general I’m finding homes in Wisconsin are very well insulated. My home in the Seattle area cost up to $400 a month to heat it. It was a large house. This one is only 1,750 square feet.

Taxes are less in Wisconsin. My taxes would be $11,000 a year in Seattle in 2022. The tax savings alone will buy a lot of propane. Plus this house will only cost me about 18% of what I sold my house for.

If they did a good job remodeling hopefully they did a good job insulating.

My dad complained the high taxes in Wisconsin, I live in TN with no income tax and relatively low property taxes.

Thanks for your response.

If you go by % WI has higher property taxes than WA. The difference is home values are far below WA. Two percent of not very much is not very much yet 1% of a lot is a LOT.

WI has an income tax and WA doesn’t. WI does not tax Social Security and certain government retirement. None of my income is taxable in WI. WA has a very high sales tax compared to WI.
