I definitely agree that abusers will not quit until THEY want to quit. Obviously our present treatment and rehab system is a failure, and perhaps there's other methods in the world to let us deal with this problem.

All that said, with the current political climate in Washington, getting more than two legislators to agree on if the sun will rise tomorrow, does not bode well for a major change in our drug policy.

Pigman, none of these junkies are bashing ladies for the purses to buy the stuff.
The cartels are not making a dime here either.
(How do you think that is affecting crime??)

Decriminalizing Drugs in Portugal a Success, Says Report - TIME

No matter your morals on the subject, as a country, we have to face the facts. The drug war did not work. Period.
Lets become sane and put our law enforcement resources where they belong. Fighting violent crime. Lets lock the pedophiles and rapists up...and keep the sickies behind bars.
Are we not tired of having 35% of our budgets going to totally failed drug enforcement?

Look at what legalizing recreational marijuana has done to those 7 states that have seen the light. Instead of costing huge bucks in law enforcement, courts and prisons, those states are getting huge tax revenue and the money is going to legal business instead of criminals.

Legalizing and regulating other drugs could have the same effect. An added benefit could be "shooting galleries" where addicts could go to more safely buy and use drugs.

The idea that making syringes difficult to obtain will slow heroin use is ludicrous! That just means more dirty needles being shared, more HIV, more infections, more state paid medical expense.

I have to give myself monthly B-12 injections. The cost of syringes went from 18 cents to $1.30 each when an Rx was required. I also have a diabetic monkey who needs 2 insulin injections daily. Thankfully I can buy them online for 10 cents each.

The war on drugs is just a knee-jerk reaction to the problem. It hasn’t and won’t reduce crime and overdoses. It's just so the politicians can claim that they are doing "something" about the problem.

Just a reminder -- this thread is about how to fill prescriptions while traveling. Some of the other discussions have drifted far from the topic and several responses are borderline inappropriate. Please stay on topic, discuss the topic, not each other, and refrain from discussing politics, including government policy.
