I carry, and I have a concealed carry permit. Several good posts and article in Motorhome magazine, convinced me that a permit was a good way to go, since most states have reciprocity agreements. And the penalty for not having a permit could be severe in some states. However, I was told by a high level retired law enforcement official. " It is better to be judged by 12 of your peers, than carried and buried by 6 of your friends".

Absolutely YES! Everywhere we go I keep a 45 ACP in the bedroom and another 45 ACP in the front, would not consider leaving home without them! One bad thing though, if you go to Canada you have to leave your gun at the check point and then pick it up when you exit which means you have to exit exactly where you enter, that is a real bummer!

One question for those who say they got a Permit to Carry, if you have your gun in a drawer of your RV that is a home and you do not need a permit, the Permit to Carry is for having a gun on your person in a holster or your pocket and WHY would you want to carry a gun while you are in a motorhome? In all states you can have a gun in your home and a motorhome is a home or a second home if you have a regular home and then the motorhome is clasified as a "Second Home".

Wife and I both have CCW from Mich, which is honored in 30+ states. Yes we carry when we travel and hope the hell we never need to use them. We both understand they should never be used unless our lives are in iminate danger.

As far as ALL states goes, you need to check the laws before you go through. I believe NY state has some very strict laws about handgun possession.
As for the permit. I have it so I can carry outside the MH.
As for the home vs. vehicle aspect of a MH, I am sure there is some case law somewhere that addresses it, but it is not as cut and dried as you make it sound.

The way I understand it is that when you are on the road, the same rules apply as if you are in a car,but when you are parked and set for camping, then it becomes your home.

To answer the question about why some of us have CHL/CCW permits, they allow us to take firearms with us when we leave the MH.

I would recommend doing a search on this topic as it has been discussed at length in prior threads. As with a lot of things in life, there are those that will always do it and those that never. Both sides are as passionate as each other, and this forum is no different. Yes I do carry all the time nationwide, but legally it's a little more cut and dried for me than for most with a state-issued CCW permit.

Yes we alawys have weapons with us but not only for two legged problems. Places we camp tend to be remote and can have some unfriendly visitors.
When we travel through Canada we follow 'THEIR' laws and regulations.
