I don't see anyone in pasties in the photo, I don't see any pastries either.

That's why you smother them in gravy.
You can also get them at Suzy's Pasties frozen to eat later, US 2 just West of I-75. Don't forget Manley's Fish Market for a taste of smoked Lake trout!

You can probably get into fistfights over who has the best pasties in the UP
Just south of Bessies is Lehto's, another fine establishment, but you'll find these wonderful items all over the UP.
Enjoy!

Tried Pasties last year in the UP. My opinion in one word....UGH! So now I can say I tried them and no reason to do so again And this was at a shop that had won "best Pasties awards over the last few years"

Must be an acquired taste. I stock up at Betsie's whenever I am traveling through St. Ignace.

Pasties are basically loaded a pot pie, only the gravy gets poured over the outside. There are usually 3 choices available, rutabaga, chicken, and beef. I was once told that Suzy's supplies most of the local restaurants with their pasties.

The "real" pasty is beef. They contain rutabaga. Purists use only ketchup on them. A proper crust is light and made with lard.
Cozy Corners Bar in Barbeau MI has amazing ones!
Chicken, Italian sausage, zucchini, etc. Are just potless pies.
