and some mornings, took the trash to the dump, loaded the back with bushels of peaches every August so grandma could make pies and preserves.

when grandpa died in 1978 i didn’t make my wishes known that i really wanted the jeep so she sold it to my cousin. i asked him to please give me first crack at it whenever he decided to part with it.

that happened in 2004. my buddy and i hauled it home and i had it restored to nearly like new condition. orginal block and tranny but i had to replace about 30% of the sheet metal (surprised to learn it’s a wood core) and the gas tank. we removed the tub and ‘sand’ blasted the chassis down to bare metal and re-painted. the tub was repainted a few shades lighter than olive drab...it’s a civilian model.

several months later it was ready and ‘Willy’ has been my daily driver for around town in nice weather ever since.

Awesome Willys! When I was a boy and at summer camp, the owner had a 1944 ex-Navy Willys that wasn't licensed for the road, just for camp use. It was all-original and was so much fun to ride in. (Wasn't old enough to drive yet). It had lots of wholes in the floor board; could watch the road underfoot! No windshield no top. Way cool. Never understood why the Willys brand went away. My fave car of all time was my 1970 Mustang Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland. I could and did blow the doors off a 'Vette illegally racing on Forest Lane back in the day. It was an automatic and was pressed into service to tow a 22 foot cabin cruiser to the lake. Kept it for about 10 years and I stupidly sold it to a high school girl for a pickup. Really dumb of me! Any pictures I had of my lime green Mach 1 are lost to time and distance so I can't post but thought I'd share the story.

My favorite cars over a 50 year time period

I no longer have photos of my favorite cars. I could grab images from the internet, but I cannot remember how to paste an image here so I'll just describe the cars.

First; is a 1967 Mercury Cougar that I got when my brother went over seas in the Navy ~1970. Mine was burgundy. In 1973 I got married and my parents gave the car to my younger sister. Within a week someone ran a stop sign and totaled the Cougar.

Second: was a ~1972 Datsun 240Z. That was a grand car that cornered great. The only reason that I sold it was that it did not have room for me, my wife and two kids. I could not afford to keep the 240Z and buy a car with more room.
I owned several other cars over the years, but the next great car-

Third: 2019 Tesla Model 3 battery electric car. The other two cars were indeed great cars, but the Tesla is by far the best car that I have ever owned.

'67 Barracuda meets Tesla M3

Restored Barracuda, just like the one my father bought new in 1967, sits next to Tesla and near motorhome. 3 very different driving experiences.

1982 Corvette, 360hp Super Skybolt

1982 Corvette 51,387 miles. She has won a few trophies as all original.

Super Skybolt Bi-Plane used in airshows all across the south east for many years.

The old Kodak TT was my first camper and home base for myself and ground crew during performances.
