Poop police

I think I have heard it all now. We called a campground to make a stopover on the way home. They required a 40.00 non refundable deposit for your dog each one. Then they take a swab of their mouths to get their DNA and compare it to any poop they find. Then you get a 75.00 charge if they find you didn't pick up their poop. You have to be kidding me. We do it automatically but this is just overboard.

Apparently they had/have an issue. So this is one method of a resolution. Some will be unhappy. Others will not.

I guess they don't want dog lovers staying there.

Unless they have a certified lab, I'd tell them to pound sand....and not refundable?....then it's a charge...

It wouldn't seem very likely an RV park has the capability to do DNA testing. A non-refundable deposit per dog is really a fee and it is hugely excessive for 1 night or even a month.

We always clean up, but would never pay a fee like this.

Solves the poop issue then, doesn't it? Call the anti-discrimination lawyers!

Had this bit of advice from a lawyer: if it's not recoverable, it's not a deposit. Donskiman is spot on.

Now that I think about it, they're trying to establish a " 'deposit' deposit ".

There's a backstory to this...

maybe the park owner got tired of picking up poop, it only takes a few who don’t pick up to make a park seem crappy.

This kind of action by campgrounds is due to a few irresponsible dog owners do not clean up after their dogs. I carry extra bags with me and offer them to the idiots that do not carry a bag.

The campground we are currently at, has a nice dog yard with bags supplied and a trash can. People still do not clean up after their animals.

I do believe they are telling you they do not want dogs there, so they just invent a high fee to keep dog owners away.
