Diesel is $4.70 to $4.79 and gas $3.95. I got the fuel in my truck from Va. last week and got enought to get me back to Va. tomorrow. I paid $4.54 for the fuel last week. After this trip we going to stay home until fall. I plan to put a $100 a month in the truck and if it runs our it will sit until next month. Maybe I can get a few fishing trips in the month.

In California diesel as passed $5 a gallon and remains a dollar more than gasoline. I can not understand why diesel is so expensive as when refining crude oil, one gets diesel long before getting gasoline and there is only a 10 cents additional tax on diesel compared to taxed gasoline.
The environmental friendly diesel made from used cooking oil, etc, is selling only 5-7 cents less than #2 diesel made from crude.

I wonder if any of our elected Representatives have reflected on the disaster of dismantling the U.S. rail system?
If you compare the total cost per ton/mile for rail transportation against OTR trucking, moving nearly all goods by rail is a runaway winner. Also, locomotive diesel is cheaper, they still use S500(LSD) fuel.
Railroads propelled this country to greatness. When our government dismantled the rail system, the U.S. began to decline, and is still doing so.
