Questioning Nextdoor online network

I received a letter today asking me to join Nextdoor, a network with all my neighbors where we keep in touch by sharing service provider recommendations, items for sale, safety updates, local events, and more. It sounds like it's really a national website, not just a local neighborhood.

Has anyone joined this network, and is it really a safe secure website for a person's information, without personal information reaching all sorts of advertisers. Sounds like a good neighborhood communication but I can also see the falicy of it.

I have been a member for some time. Overall good information and resources. I'd recommend.

Been a member for about a year. Mostly people asking for contractors, alerting you to suspicious activity and things like that. Don't pay attention to free and for sale listings. Never been bothered byanyone soliciting.

I've been a member for a few months. Jury is still out on how I feel about it. I specifically checked for it to be for just my housing development (there was a checkbox for that), but I get emailed notices for other areas.

I may not stay with it. My housing development has a website & I get more info relevant to it there than via this Nextdoor thing.

We have belonged for some time now, and find it to be a good resource. Like all other social media sites, there will be crackpots and schemers, but easy to tell who is who.

Things like this usually are. I've also found that those "free trial for one month" subscriptions usually are also. I stay clear of most things that say you can cancel anytime.
This deal sounded like a nice idea until I noticed at the bottom of their web site that it included neighbors from Sidney and San Francisco. Not exactly a local neighborhood communication site it sounds like.

Appreciate all the follow-up information.

We've been members for a couple years. There are several neighborhoods in our area that we get information on.
Some of the things people post are just plain ridiculous.
I'll stay a member for now.

My wife uses it and it has generally worked out well. I joined separately for a while but saw little need for the two of us to have individual accounts so left.

Here it is 99% lost dogs, lost cats, fly by night home repair and political crackpots. Occasionally useful information. Been a member for 4 or 5 years. I hardly look at it anymore. Your personal info is safe as long as you don't share it.

I joined some time ago. Unfortunately we have some overzealous moderators and members in our area. One of my threads got removed because someone didn't like a reply that was posted by someone else. We also did a garage sale and posted about it, one of the moderators removed it stating it was a "business" posting, which it wasn't.
Some times good and sometimes not so good.
