I was reading Blood Covenant by Michael Franzese last week. This is a guy who became a Capo for the Colombo Crime Family in the 80s and subsequently quit the mob. In his book he says that Machiavelli is almost required reading for the mob.

Streaming Criminal Minds last night with the DW, they usually start the show with a quote. Last night's episode started with one from Machiavelli that made me think of the Franzese book and it was kind of blood curdling:

“If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared.”

That could be the motto of Ender Wiggin.

I have to admit I had to remind myself who that was. Ender's Game novel was a good book.

Yes but it first appeared as a short story and only after that was rewritten as a novel.

And then extended by a number of additional short and novel length stories. I've read most and liked them. Only disappointment was Shadows in Flight, last story in the Ender's Shadow series. Ending was kind of flat.

It's an Oscar Wilde quote, IIRC.

I thought that'd resonate with a few. We unplugged cable because of it.
